This is a great, centrally located apartment. Our Lisbon tour guide met us at the front door for our walking tour. Our food tour was down the street and it was an easy walk to breakfast and lunch. As others have said it is a little noisy but so convenient! Morning runs were along the coast on a bike path.

We chose this apt for location, character, bedrooms. Great to have 3 full bathrooms, all showers had good pressure and plenty of hot water. (Not always common in an old building!) As advertised, a fair amount of street noise; recommend sound sleepers or earplugs in front bedrooms. (Middle of the night is quiet, but before midnight and after 6am you'll hear other tenant noises inside, trams/people outside. Back bedrooms are much quieter.) Terrific location - easily catch trams/buses, walk to meals and sites. It was a rainy week for us but we were still out on foot every day. We ate so well! Many good restaurants w/in easy walking distance. We didn't cook but we did have drinks and light meals in; kitchen supplied everything we needed. Apartment is full of charm with pretty, colorful touches throughout. Living room mural is a delight! Just be prepared for an old building and quirks that inevitably come with that. João (owner) and Erick (assistant) were helpful and super communicative.

Good apartment with EXCELLENT service from the host. I don't think I've ever had such a proactive, quick to respond and efficient AirBnB host. And that makes a lot of difference. The apartment is faithful to the photos. Very functional, it has everything we need: fully equipped kitchen, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms. It met expectations and worked perfectly since there were 7 of us and we needed 4 rooms. The location is good as it is close to several tourist attractions in Alfama. But it's about a 15-minute walk from Chiado. The area is a bit noisy (the front rooms faced the street where the tram passed). It didn't bother me, but it was noticeable. The windows are old and did not seal from the cold that was in December. We compensate with blankets and a heater in the rooms. The apartment is not luxurious, but everything works well and again the service of João and the team that works for him was exceptional.

Had a brief stay in Joao’s laying, stayed overnite between Porto and Lisbon departure next day. Check-in very good, had a representative there to great us. Definitely fit our group of 5, plumbing and showers were fine, beds comfortable. Lots of fans to use in common areas and bedrooms. Lots of wall paintings with Lisbon landmarks and Lisbon culture. Location is great, with walkable restaurants, especially if you want a Fado Concert while eating. Nice view of the river a short walk away. Tram 28 is just outside the unit, which is good and bad, can hear it and feel it as it goes by. But so easy to catch for the iconic ride. Fortunately, we are sound sleepers, so no problem for us. Definitely a nice unit with lots of character.

Loved our stay in this beautiful apartment! The photos gave us a clear sense of the space and we were thrilled that the location was so central to so much of what we wanted to see and do. The house was really well-equipped and suited our group of 8 (across 3 generations) perfectly. João was a lovely and responsive host- would highly recommend this apartment. It’s a quirky spot, as other reviews highlighted. The only thing I would add is a few more fans since we were there during a heat wave (which is happening more often these days)…. We also took many of João’s recommendations, including a daylong boat trip!

We loved João and Christina’s flat in the Alfama area of Lisbon. Great location! We arrived in Summer, so it was a quite warm, but the fans helped. Christina was very helpful with recommendations and took time with us at check-in. This is a perfect spot for a family like ours (2 adults and 4 adult children age 17-26) who wanted to explore Lisbon and eat most meals out. Everything we needed was within walking distance and the rest of the city was easily accessible by uber, tram, train, etc. I would stay here again and recommend this flat to friends and family, as long as they’re able to walk up a few steps.

We had an amazing time at João’s apartment. Christina walked us through everything during check in. We didn’t have any problems with the apartments except the ones that come with well loved apartments (a drafty window in one of the rooms, an errant bathroom door that won’t close and a slow drain in one of the bathrooms). The check out was a breeze as well. We would definitely stay again with the family. We highly recommend a stay here!

Traveling with my three adults kids it was great to have 4 bedrooms and three bathrooms. The kitchen worked well for several dinners and breakfasts with a nice dishwasher. Since we travel light (only carry on luggage) the washer and clothesline was perfect.

Excellent location- in the middle of a touristy area. Right next to a view point, the Sao George castle, shopping. Numerous restaurants within walking distance. A grocery store about 7 minute walk, a mini mart across the street. Very helpful, responsive and flexible host! We initially booked for 4 nights, then extended to 6. There were no bookings the day before and after us, and we were graciously allowed an early check in and late checkout. The place is exactly as described. Unless travelling with family/kids, it is ideal for 6 people even though it can fit 8. Best hot water showers I had in Europe 🙂.

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this stay and João and his team as hosts. Before we arrived, they answered all of our MANY questions about local recommendations and even made a tour and restaurant reservation for us. They went above and beyond in so many way, and the apartment is in a wonderful location plenty of space and was incredibly clean. Walkable to so many wonderful sights and shopping too! We had a great stay at João’s place in the Alfama! We had our three children and parents with us and had plenty of room. João provided not only a crib and high chair, but also suitable dishware and toys to play with. It rained a bit when we were there and João reached out with plenty of recommendations for things to do without me even asking. The location was perfect for getting everywhere and bonus was the delicious brunch right across the street! We loved every bit of our stay and would return again.

The apartment was fabulous! Perfect location close to everything, amazing style, plenty of space, fully appointed and a lot of little special touches that made it the perfect homebase for exploring the city. Location along the historic 28 tram line added to the character of our stay – embodies the vibrancy of the neighborhood and fun to watch during the day but peaceful at night when it shut down. Host communication was spot on and Tomas was the icing on the cake – super helpful and responsive. Will definitely be staying here again during our next trip to Lisboa. The apartment was perfect for us, and was situated in the Amalfa district, walkable to everything you could ask for. Our group of 8 had a wonderful stay in Joao's apartment. It was an ideal location in Alfama close to Castelo Sao Jorge and the Se. The apartment was right on a tram line and had food markets, shops, and restaurants all within a block of the apartment. The apartment was one flight of stairs up from the street and entry to the building and apartment were coded and easy to use. The unit itself was clean, stylish, and comfortable, and we appreciated having 3 bathrooms. All amenities were as advertised, and although the unit does not have air conditioning, the fans and floor to ceiling windows provide excellent circulation. The one interior bedroom can get stuffy. Joao was a proactive, helpful, and communicative host before, during, and after. He helped us arrange a private transfer to Lisbon and helped us retrieve bags left in the apartment after checkout. Fernando greeted us at the apartment and provided a thorough overview of the area and apartment. Overall, excellent experience!

This place was a wonderful spot to stay for our time in Lisbon. Joao and Fernando were wonderful, they gave us so many fabulous recommendations and were so welcoming. The property was gorgeous, had amazing views, and was near so many lovely things to do. We also came during the celebration of Saint Anthony, and the parties were right outside the doorstep! Definitely plan to stay here again on my next visit. Would recommend to anyone.

This is a lovely apartment in a great location. Everything is walkable and there are some good restaurants nearby. Spacious enough for 6 people but maybe a little tight for 8. João was very helpful from booking to leaving and always responded quickly. What a great stay we had here. The location is wonderful - close to everything! The apartment is as described, very clean, cozy, beautiful, and easily accommodated our family of 6. This Alfama apartment is a gem! It's a great location, with a stop outside for Tram 12/28, and a short walk to the cathedral, the castle, and fantastic views of the city. It's also close to many shops and restaurants. Joao was so helpful in allowing us to check in a bit early and in providing many recommendations for the area. Tomas greeted us at the front door and gave us a tour of the house as well as more suggestions for Lisbon and for Sintra, where I had mentioned we were doing a tour. The apartment itself was perfect for our group of six friends, with fun decor and plenty of space. The keypad entries for the outside door and for the apartment were helpful, and we loved that our hosts provided coffee, basic kitchen supplies (salt/pepper, coffee, tea, sugar, etc.), and even a bottle of champagne to celebrate a milestone birthday. We highly recommend this apartment and hope to visit again!

What a great find! The location of the flat is fantastic, number 28 tram is just downstairs. Every attraction is within 15mins walk. The flat is old Lisbon style with wonderful balconies that look out onto the street and beyond. The Se (cathedral of Lisbon) can be seen outside the window and is a 2min walk away. But what I must commend is the fantastic communication and help of the hosts. They went out of the way to book restaurants for us (even ones that don’t take bookings!). They organised airport transfers for us and the guy was so helpful and lovely, he took us all the way to the counter as my mother-in-law had mobility issues. I’m just amazed at the wonderful Portuguese hospitality. Don’t hesitate to stay here, it’s amazing!

We spent five of a week at the apartment. After a warm welcome, we were immediately provided with fantastic tips (restaurants, sights, etc.). The apartment is ideally located for everything within walking distance. Opposite is a great breakfast cafe and for dinner, the neighborhood also offers plenty of offers. The apartment is lovingly furnished. You can highlight the good and abundant amenities of dishes, glasses, bathroom items to play in the living area. We enjoyed the time and felt comfortable, but had to get used to the soundscape of tram 28 right outside the door.

We had a lovely stay at João’s apartment. All top notch fixtures and linens, it was like being in a nice hotel, but with plenty of space for my family of five. The apartment is lovingly restored and maintains a lot of original character, most of all the gorgeous vintage tiles that are original to the apartment - they’re stunning! The location is phenomenal, right near wonderful shops, gorgeous views, and must-see points of interest. All this, plus João was incredibly responsive and helpful, a true joy to work with, always going above and beyond. Thank you for everything João!!!

This place is a standout for a number of reasons. The location alone is worth the price. In the heart of Alfama, we were able to easily walk to many attractions and restaurants in this part of Lisbon - under 10 minutes to Sao Jorge Castle, under 15 to the Arch, and under 20 to the Santa Justa elevator, with brunch cafes, restaurants all within a 15 minute radius. The host, Joao, was responsive to all our questions, provided thoughtful recommendations for things to do with our kids, and arranged a number of transfers to and from Porto (and was at the ready to do even more). These two reasons would be enough to justify booking. The place itself is charming and full of character, and easily able to accommodate our family of six, three boys and three adults. We had an amazing stay!

Joao (and Fernando) went above and beyond to help us when another property let us down, and within 5minutes of contacting them we had reassurance that we will be able to have a pleasant stay in Lisbon. An hour later we were welcome by Fernando who made us feel at home immediately. Explaining in detail what we could do and make the most of our stay but also he was at the end of the phone resolving doubts and genuine interested for us to have a good stay. The apartment is right in the middle of the old town with The Se 3mins walk, Sao Jorge Castle 5mins walk and N28 & N12 trams right outside. This means you are so well placed to access everywhere walking but also expect the buzz and noise of all of it. The apartment has a special charm as within a classic Lisbon building and the rooms have maximised the space to have the 5 of us well accommodated. We were a group of six (three couples) and here are some highlights of the space: - We each had our own FULL bathroom - The space felt very private even with six people - We were meant to be 8 and there would still have been plenty of space - The apartment is even more spacious than the photos illustrate - SUPER walkable with close access to a grocer and awesome breakfast spot - The street IS lively with the 28 running right outside and it can be a little loud outside. A pair of ear plugs and an eye mask, and a little white noise from the Dyson air fan in the bedrooms do the trick - João has an immense library of recommendations for things to do and places to eat and replies within 24 hours, usually MUCH sooner - This was all our first time to Lisbon and we're grateful to have found this apartment to make our home for a few nights Thank you, João!

Amazing location close to plenty of tourist spots, restaurants, and shops. The Airbnb was clean and just as advertised in photos. The hosts were very nice and welcoming! They were also responsive and were quick to replace a broken hairdryer within a few hours! Would definitely recommend this to anyone staying in Lisbon!

João’s place was absolutely perfect for 4 day stay in Lisbon with a group of 6 people. The apartment location was perfect, centrally located on a fun energetic street but quiet enough during the evenings. Joao and Fernando were extremely responsive and beyond helpful to us with recommendations, tips and even offering to help us make reservations. The windows open right up to the street with small balconies that are great to take in. We all slept great in the spacious bedrooms. The 3 bathrooms were amazing given our group size. Check in and check out could not have been easier. Highly recommend this apartment (and host!) for anyone visiting Lisbon!!

Great stay in Lisbon at Joâo. The apartment is ideally located in the heart of Alfama 2 minutes walk from the Sé and 5 minutes walk from Castel Sao Jorge. Tram 28 passes at the bottom of the building. There is a cafe in front of the building that offers good breakfasts and lunch. Joâo is very friendly and friendly and tries to give the best solutions and advice for us.

Now I know what the PLUS in AirBNB plus stands for – outstanding service! Joao was instrumental in the success of our Lisbon vacation. I had done a tremendous amount of planning for the trip and as the date grew closer I thought I was all set. However, the restaurants I wanted to make a reservation for were not on The Fork so I reached out to Joao and he made a reservation at a lovely restaurant for our first night in Liston. Then I was overwhelmed with all the Fado choices - I reached out to Joao and asked him to ‘just pick one for us’! We had an amazing night at Fama d’Alfama - all 4 of us said it was our favorite night in Lisbon. Joao also made arrangements for my husband and I to be picked up at the airport, and for our daughters to be picked up a couple of hours later. Even though our flight’s arrival time kept changing, Fernando was there to meet us and welcome us to our new Lisbon ‘home’. Thank you Joao - we would love to do it all again!

Our family of 7 had a wonderful time at João‘s place. Prior to our trip he was very responsive and detailed with providing recommendations and things to do in Lisbon. When we arrived, Fernando was there to greet us and give us some ideas of places to go while waiting to check in. When we checked in at 3:30, the place was spotless and exactly as described. The location couldn’t have been more perfect. We were on a quaint street in alfama and had a perfect view of the Se Cathedral. The tram whizzed right by the place which my 2 year old loved. We had one of our best family vacations ever at Joaos place and I would love to go back. If you are in doubt, don’t be - stay at this Lisbon apartment!

We stayed at Joao’s place in Alfama district. It is very close to the cathedral and and walkable to some really awesome restaurants and places of interest. It is on the tram line but quiet. It’s on the first floor up one flight of stairs. We found the apartment big enough for two families (6 people total). We were happy with everything that was provided. The welcome bottles of wines, towel, recommendations from Joao. He also helped us book pickup from The airport and also helped us book taxi as we were traveling to Algarve. In general a very nice experience and we would definitely recommend the place to others. If you are coming from the US know that this is more like an apartment in NY versus some large place in the suburbs. But it’s private and sufficient for a family of six.

We loved staying at Joao’s apartment in Alfama! It was centrally located next to amazing restaurants and souvenir shops. The trolley is right outside the door, so it is busy and lively - we loved it but it can be loud. With the few minor issues we had, he was so quick to respond and went above and beyond for a resolution! He gave us recommendations for restaurants (all were delicious), arranged airport transport, and provided an amazing cake and wine to help us celebrate a birthday! And the 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths were ideal for our group of 5 women - we had plenty of room. The building is old and historic - they were putting in an elevator (but not sure when it will be completed and working) - this apartment was up a flight and a half of stairs. Easy self check-in and check-out.

This apartment had everything we could ask for in a city apartment in Lisbon. The location was perfect, close to restaurants, scenic overlooks, historic places and everything in Alfama. The brunch place across the street is outstanding, as well as Petit Cafe for dinner! Easy walk to downtown, which we did so many times during our week stay. Just up the street is an overlook with gorgeous views, and just down the street is the famous Lisbon Cathedra. The neighborhood is very lively, Tram 28 goes right by and we enjoyed hanging out on the balcony watching and conversing with people below. First floor access up one flight of stairs was also easy. Tip, stairwell light is on a timer, you need to turn it on when entering the hall, which we didn't learn until the last day :) The decor in the apartment is wonderful, a mix of old world style and new art deco. Bathrooms and kitchen have been updated and provided everything we needed. Beds were also very comfy and the place was very clean. Two things to note, its is a fairly busy area and you do hear the tram and people into the evening. Also there is no AC so it can get warm, but the fans in every room are a big help. We felt both of these things added to the authentic charm. Joao is a FANTASTIC host. We looked to him for guidance on transportation, tours, recommendations, etc. He is quick to respond and extremely helpful. We did have a small issue with a car service delay, but Joao had an associate meet with us, held our luggage until pickup and assisted with our bags when the car did arrive. He made what could have been a headache into something barely noticeable. This was our second visit to Lisbon, and I am happy to say I cannot wait to go back!

We were in Lisbon for 7 days for a special birthday and my family had arrived from all around the world. There was an issue with the apartment which was no fault go Joao however he went beyond what was required to ensure that we were taken care of and it was appreciated. Lisbon is one my favourite cities and this was our 2nd visit and it didn't disappoint the location of the apartment was perfect as you could walk in any direction and discover a different part of Lisbon, plus as it was near the cathedral it's a great landmark if you get lost which for me is part of the charm of Lisbon. The apartment has Dyson fan/heaters in each room which was much appreciated as it was around 37 degrees some days. I will definitely be back to Lisbon thank you for hosting us.

Joao’s place was easy to find, located in the heart of Alfama with a lot of people watching opportunities. Check in was very easy - though if you’re from the states either have WhatsApp or an international phone plan, it will make it that much easier. The place has doors to open up to the outside and you get the breeze. Our mornings were spent watching the trams and people or reading books by the open doors. The apartment stays cool even on hot days. The fans provided suitable air movement during the night when the doors were closed. Joao, and Giuseppe who greeted us, were easy to reach during our stay and pleasant to speak with. They arranged a transfer to the airport which turned out to be a great deal, comfortable, and saved us a lot of time. During our stay it was our family of three and another family of three and the place worked really well for us. Truly a great place to stay even if it’s a busy street, there is only tram noise at night and it can be soothing. Definitely recommend bigger groups to stay and have a convenient location and comfortable home base.

João’s place was described very well and met almost all expectations. It’s not a sprawling pad, just like many places when visiting old cities, but the decor and amenities were fun and well-thought out. Not a complaint and no fault of his, there was one bathroom that could not be used due to a leak. Sometimes these things happen and luckily there were 2 others so our party of 8 did fine to share. João was responsive w/our questions in the months leading up to our trip which helped us plan well and he also set up airport transportation to the apartment. Giuseppe met us upon our arrival and briefed us on the place/area and was very helpful with any questions we had. The compilation of suggestions in a link they provided was terrific. The location was perfect-so much to do and see nearby, and easily accessible on foot. The Alfama had so much to offer - we were so happy to have found this location as a safe home base. Right from when we booked the place, Joao was an awesome host. He reached out multiple times, and was very quick to respond to questions. He provided helpful tips about getting around and good places to eat. When we arrived, his team greeted us and showed us the place. And, when we were leaving all we needed to do was turn off the lights in all the rooms and leave the keys on the coffee table! Super easy and fun! The location was perfect.... a 5 min walk from St Georg's Castle and Se. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing time here. The apartment was the ideal size for a group of seven and perfectly located for sightseeing around beautiful Lisbon. The bedrooms got a little hot for us... coming from Ireland that isn't hard, but the fans worked great and we all slept like babies. The airport transfer was so handy as well. We absolutely loved our stay in Lisbon, in huge part thanks to Joao and this wonderful apartment right in the heart of the city. Joao went above and beyond to host us with care and thoughtfulness helping us arrange activities and moments to experience the heart of the city and the culture. The place is beautiful, artistic, interesting and feels like a home. Gorgeous tile and hardwoods. Definitely differentiated from other airbnbs we have stayed in. It’s walkable to anything, great for kids with amenities and the rooms have the ability to get dark and block out sound at night. The apartment was great and all we hoped for. Fantastic location in Alfama. Great place for breakfast 8m across the street (Break Se). Even though the tram passes right outside 2 of the 4 bedrooms, with the shutters closed it was really wasn’t too noisy. To top it off, Joao was very responsive & helpful including arranging a nice birthday surprise for my husband. Would thoroughly recommend for a break in Lisbon!

Loved, Loved, Loved the apartment. Stylish and hip but very comfortable also. LOCATION was perfect. Beautiful & fun. Walked to a great look out of the city/ water next to Santa Luzia Church and also to Sao Jorge Castle. Tram 28 (and tram 12) run right in front of apartment. I have very cute tram photos from the apartment pop out balconies. Two or three stops on tram 28 takes you to Praça do Comércio - a main gathering plaza, with restaurants, that opens to the water. Brunch restaurant right across the street is pretty and good. Our favorite restaurant of our 4 days in Lisbon was right on this street. Rio Coura is Portuguese seafood. Everything we ordered was excellent- lobster, soups, bread, fish platter, fried squid. Very good prices too. Across the street and downhill half a block or so. Hip murals of Lisbon topics on the apartment walls. My two teens loved it. Comfortable sleeping for our group of one couple, one aunt, one granddad, two teens. About 20 inside steps from street to apartment. João was an amazing communicator throughout. He and Giuseppe were available to answer any question and give thoughtful advice. João noticed my son’s 17th birthday happened during our stay and Giuseppe brought us a birthday cake and candles!! After a busy day at Sintra to have a cake waiting was perfect. Thank you João & Giuseppe. You can feel confident staying here.

Joao booked dinner for my sister and I at the cutest fado restaurant around the corner from the apartment and it was amazing. Location couldn’t be better- there is a set of stairs to walk up with luggage but it adds to the charm of staying in the oldest neighbourhood in the city. Tram 28 passes right by the windows and it is just the ultimate spot for experiencing how amazing Lisbon is. I’ve stayed in other Airbnb’s in the city but this is the BEST by far. Cant wait to come back!!!

Perfect. Our host was responsive and helpful in every way. The space was clean, comfortable, and plentiful. The location is old world, something out of time, close to markets, restaurants, shops, and sights. We are an extended family of six, not sure why we would stay anywhere else. Great trip. My husband and I, and four of our friends, had a wonderful week in Lisbon. Joao's place was a great size for six people and having three bathrooms was extra nice. We were worried about it being warm in Lisbon (I'm sad to say I've become used to air conditioning living in the States), but Joao had really nice fans in all the rooms so it was really comfortable. The location is amazing!!! Right in the center of the action in Alfama, but the street was quiet enough at night so we could sleep--the double-paned windows and shutters also helped with night time quietness. I love the decor--it made it feel like a real Lisbon experience (and above and beyond just being in a bland hotel room). Joao was very helpful and responsive and was a great host! João was a fantastic host. The location is perfect - downtown in the heart of everything. The house was very clean, and it had many amenities (coffee, tea, shampoo, shower gel, large bottle of water upon arrival, etc). There are many restaurants, shops, and attractions in walking distance - and João gives you a nice google map of things to do as well. We were late checking in (a few wrong turns) but they were very understanding. He was also very quick to respond to our questions and had lots of great advice. My only advice - if you are renting a really large car - parking around that area is difficult. João recommended a lot we would have fit in, but we just couldn’t make the turn. Honestly hindsight you don’t need a car I lisbon anyway.

What a wonderful place to stay in Lisbon - walking distance from many major attractions, with enough room for everyone to feel comfortable during the stay. It was more spacious than we expected and very comfortable for our group of 7 to enjoy hanging out and still have enough room to ourselves. Having Joao as a host was definitely the highlight as he was the most responsive and helpful I’ve ever had on Airbnb. Highly recommend staying with him in the Alfama apartment! PS if you are sensitive to noise maybe just think twice because the apartment is on a rather busy street and there is a lot of noise when the water is used. Other than that, no complaints!

Family vacation of four days at Joao's place, the flat was exactly as on the pictures, if not better in real! We were nicely welcome, with a friend of Joao waiting for us on the front door, and with a bottle of wine and water in the living room. Also, his friend gave us some advices on what to see around. The decoration is great, the common spaces very appreciated and big enough to spend time together, the rooms are not huge but largely enough to sleep and feel comfortable, we didn't used the kitchen but it had everything you need. The water system is quite noisy, when shower or toilet, but that's okay. The location of the flat is super central, few steps away from the Porta del Sol place, the famous yellow tram is just in front of the building, so great location. The windows actually isolate a lot of the noise from the street and tram, however not completely, so if you are a light sleeper, take one of the two rooms on the other side of the flat. Anyway if you are too warm, no need to open the windows, there are private fans in each room. A good plus, Joao was very reactive to our messages, which was greatly appreciated. The check out went perfect, we could leave our luggages at the flat until our departure for the airport, which was very convenient. In summary, we had a great stay and I would highly recommend Joao's place!

Every question we had was answered promptly to and taken care of. The location is in the old city and everything is in walking distance. Great apartment in a good location for exploring Alfama. Only slight issue is the thunderous noises from the plumbing whenever the central toilet was used! Travel hint for visitors: when arriving by Metro, use Rossio station and come down R Padras Negras - we took R de Sao Mamede the first time, and it's a lot steeper! When heading out from the apartment, it's easier to go downhill to Terreiro do Paço station.

Joao is a really great host that's willing to help you in every way imaginable. He even went so far as to recommend and book a faro restaurant as well as arrange our transportation from the airport to the apartment. That's what I call service :) The apartment itself is very nice and suitable for larger groups, due to the fact that there are 3 bathrooms available. Beds were comfy and the atmosphere of the apartment authentic Portuguese. We had a really good experience and I'd definitely recommend this Airbnb ;) thanks again Joao!

I had a super nice stay in this flat. The host was very helpful and took care of all my requests, made good suggestions for restaurants and placed the reservations etc. The flat is beautiful, very conveniently situated. Lots of shops and restaurants around. The beds are very comfortable, bathrooms are clean and with some nice details. The kitchen is well equipped. If you need a place for more people, with more than just one or two beds and bathrooms, this flat is a very good choice.

This is a great apartment in a very convenient location - great for exploring Alfama or heading up the hill a little for views over the city. Even things which look further away like the Time Out Market were only a 20-25 min stroll. The apartment was clean and spacious for four of us sharing, with a lovely dining table for breakfasts and a bottle of wine as a welcome gift. Would be aware that one of the en-suite rooms is internal and so has no windows, which can make it slightly warmer but there are Dyson fans provided in every bedroom and it was a particularly hot heatwave when we visited so quite unusual! The road is a little noisy at night as the bins on the street were emptied at about 1am for some reason, but you have to expect a little street noise with such an amazing, central location. We would certainly stay here again because of the convenience and also because Joao was incredibly good at communicating and giving us all the information we could possibly need about getting around, sights and even recommending hotels with pools open to non-guests (for a charge). He can also arrange taxi transfers to the airport. Little tip: If you staying this part of Lisbon, I would highly recommend getting an Uber to Praia Morena if you want a beach day - it cost us £18-20 each way which was fine split between 4 people. It's much quieter than the nearer beaches which are accessible by train and we mainly saw locals there. There's a great beach bar where you can buy reasonably priced sandwiches for lunch or decent dinners. You can also rent a sun lounger set of 2 with an umbrella here for 6 euros a day.

We had couple of days in Lisbon in August and have enjoyed staying in the apartment very much. The apartmemt was located within the walking distance to most sights and restaurants. It was very clean and had evertying that you need, even the capsulates for the Nespresao mashine( which my husband appreciated very much). Joao was very helpful with checking in/out and advise about the area. We would for sure go back and highly recommend

The apartment offers a great location and plenty of sleeping room for large families or several couples. The best part is the location in Alfama. It is near a number of attractions and restaurants. You can ride the 28 line, watch a sunrise in Alfama or walk to the cathedral. We found it to be in a location that allowed us to walk to many parts of the city. The apartment over looks the street and is right on the trolley line. We thought that the noise may be a problem but it wasn't and it actually added to the overall experience for the family. Having multiple bathrooms was key for our family and getting everyone ready for the days activities. The living room is somewhat small but the dining room offers additional seating options. Overall, we had a great time and would stay here again without hesitation. Joao was a great host and was very responsive and willing to help in any way he could.

My husband, our two little kids, my mother-in-law and I enjoyed our two nights' stay. Location was fantastic, right below Miradouro Santa Luzia and Portas da Sol, and a short walk to Arco Rua Augusta and the pedestrian area. Had a great meal at Farol Santa Luzia right up the street. Loved the artistic, modern design of the space, and appreciated the two pack n plays and high chair. Didn't get to enjoy the bottle of wine, but appreciated the hospitality. Joao was a great host, providing great insider tips and recommendations, and arranged our airport transfers. Overall a great experience and would highly recommend.

We didn't see Joao but he was very responsive and very anxious to know that everything was fine . The flat is very pleasant (although the water drainage in the bathrooms is noisy) and in an excellent location for exploring Lisbon on foot. A very good place that we recommend.

We were a family of three - all adults - and were not quite sure what to expect of this place whose pictures and descriptions promised an awesome experience. I can genuinely say that we loved the place. There was a bit of a snafu when the taxi driver we had pre-paid for did not show up when we arrived at the airport. Messages to Joao were promptly answered and the driver did show. When he dropped us off he wanted payment, and we had to tell him it was paid for already. This was not a good start. We were met at the apt. by Tiago. He was fantastic! Explained everything, even added addresses to the supermarket and 100 Menaires a restaurant we had made reservations to. I asked him questions about the city and he readily provided answers and gave us tips. A+ for Tiago! The apt. had two bedrooms with attached bathrooms, and two bedrooms which shared a bathroom. It can sleep 8 people though if you are used to American double beds, these were large twins to our eyes. Each of us took one bed room and our college age son loved the privacy (I am writing this review from Evora, where we are in a hotel room; though lovely, we are missing the space this apt. provided). Everything was provided, dish soap, laundry soap, towels, etc. except bath soap and toiletries. Bring your own. The best part of this apt was the location. You are in the heart of Alfama. You can watch life go by. Get lost in the tangled streets. We walked everywhere. We stayed here for two nights. I wholeheartedly recommend this apartment. P.S. If you are used to American type door locks, practice opening and closing the front door several times. It is tricky.

This is great place for families. We had four adults and four children and there was plenty of space. It is also very close to many sites as well as public transportation. Joao was extremely helpful and responsive to all of our needs. The only issue was an odor when the water ran. However, I notified Joao and he sent someone to address the issue the next day. I would definitely stay here again.

We had a lovely weekend stay in Joao's appartment. Communication was excellent, location fantastic and cleanlisness was flawless. All of our flights were delayed but everybody waited for us. Joao organised a shuttle. The driver was more than friendly. We had a bottle of wine, water, coffee and little necessities in kitchen and bathroom. If you are looking for location this place is an excellent choice. Joao is an excellent host, available and friendly. We were eight people, bathrooms are newly renovated. The bedrooms are quiet with the exception of the water tank inside the apartment which makes a pretty loud noise every time you flush the toilet of use the bathroom... hence using the bathroom in the middle of the night should be avoided. The dining table is comfortable but the living room only has a two seated which for eight people is not sufficient.

The apartment is just as described, perfect. The host was thoughtful and attentive. Sofia greeted us, and answered our questions with care. We enjoyed the local red wine left by Joao before heading out for dinner. Fado clubs dot the neighborhood, the Cathedral is on the corner, a Roman theatre excavation around the corner, and the tram heads up and down outside the door. Lisboa is a friendly, charming city; this was a base for exploration, and a place to observe the golden light through tall, shuttered windows.

Fabulous location in a bustling, busy area of the Alfama district. Close to all amenities--- grocery store is close, small grocery across the street---- restaurants and patios all around you and your very own Fado singer across the street which you can enjoy all night if you leave the windows open! This street has the famous tram 28 which runs along it. Lots of room, well equiped kitchen--- we cooked breakfast and dinner often. There were two singles and one couple so we all had a private room and our own bathroom--- modern facilities in a beautiful old building! Thoroughly enjoyed our time in Lisbon!

This apartment was everything I hoped for. My favorite part was waking up, opening the windows and taking in the view. The location was within walking distance of everything we wanted to see along with things we didn't even know existed. Right behind the apartment is an amazing piece by the artist Vhils as well as a hotel with an incredible rooftop bar. The apartment is exactly as described. I took one of the rooms off the street and would have slept fine if I'd kept the windows closed, but I liked the fresh air so I had to sleep with ear plugs because the tram line is quite noisy. Again, with the windows closed, the street sounds are fine (note: I am a city girl so I'm used to city noise). João was a perfect host and quickly responded to all messages. This was a great apartment and I would 100% recommend and book again :)

Very nice apartment in the Alfama area. Host João and Sofia made the visit very easy. They communicate nicely and are always helpful. The location is superb. Many attractions are easily walkable. The street noise can be a bit loud requiring closing windows but that's not much of a drawback. Highly recommend and would stay here again.

The apartment is super great! We were 5 people and we had plenty of space. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need (and even more). Washing powder and dishwasher tablets were also provided! We had the room at the back, and it was very quiet, and the bed was super comfortable. Shops and bars/restaurants are right nearby! The landlord has put together a card with all the information you need on site, which is very useful! What’s more, you could contact him at any time if you did have any questions! We were completely satisfied and would come back anytime!

The 7 of us including a 4 year old and a 21 month old had a great stay. It was an apartment full of characters, and thoughtfully stocked with essentials such as dishwasher tablets, washing tablets, toilet rolls and plenty of crockery. Communication was great from before till after the stay. At our request, Joao arranged for us a personalised tour of the Peninsula War battlefields which was thoroughly enjoyed and completely surpassed expectation.

My cousins and i stayed at the apartment for 4 days and 3 nights. The apartment is a beautiful place, as a group of 6 we all had a comfortable amount of space. Everything was lovely and the addition of fans were a considerate thought, especially as we neared 30 degrees celsius towards the end of the trip. The apartment is located in Alfama, though the walk to and forth from the centre of town is short and not all that steep. Even better for when you dont want to walk is the fact that the tram stops just outside the apartment. However we all noted that it wasn't that loud late at night. Souvenir shops, restaurants and a convenience store are just outside and contain all extra amenities that we needed. João and Sophia repeatedly checked in on us and were a great help, i cannot recommend this place enough!

My sisters, my cousin and I stayed in this apartment for the first week of April 2017. João’s flat is very nice, well furnished and comfortable. However, what we liked most was the location of the house in the Alfama district, perhaps the most evocative and poetic part of the whole of Lisbon. The convenience of tram 28 stopping right outside the front door is priceless. I highly recommend this venue, especially for groups of friends. Sofia’s hospitality was perfect.

João's place was fantastic! João was extremely helpful with suggestions for things to do during our stay in Lisbon and he was always easy to get in contact with. The location in Alfama was perfect! We rented a car for the week and we had absolutely no problem in finding free street parking a short walk from the apartment. And driving in Portugal is quite civilized compared to most other places, although some of the steep hills can be a little intimidating! There were also lots of neighbourhood cafes, restaurants and shops just seconds away. And the streetcar passes right by the front door of the apartment. There were four of us and we each had our own bedroom as well as 3 bathrooms with showers to share. We went to Lisbon with the goal of eating lots of seafood and very happily found a large selection of restaurants. Be sure to go to the ones with Portuguese menus only! They have the best and the cheapest by far! The apartment has a fully loaded kitchen and we used it often to cook our own meals. There's a shopping market very nearby for groceries and a fish market as well. The wifi in the apartment was a great advantage in planning our daily trips and it was always reliable. The apartment was very nicely decorated and the living room and dining room were spacious enough for everyone. We always felt safe at the apartment and in the neighbourhood. The keys to the apartment were always often and adventure to use, depending on which one of us was trying to open the door...be sure to listen to the instructions for using the keys! :-) Very easy to use if you follow directions. 😁. We got 2 sets of keys, so sometimes one of us would be out without a set of keys...so be sure to remember which apartment you're in so that you press the right buzzer from downstairs to get in! Lisbon is truly an amazing and beautiful city to visit! The people are friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, the food and coffee are so good and affordable, the weather is gorgeous and there's so much to see and do! Thank you, João, for hosting us and being so helpful! We all loved the whole trip and staying at your place was an essential part of that wonderful experience.

Joao's apartment is located just close to the Cathedral, in a perfect position to reach the Baixa or the restaurants of Alfama. Electrico 28 passes just out of our windows, and there is a stop just out of the front door. The apartments has a kitchen, 4 rooms (2 with a queen size bed, one of which with no window, and 2 rooms with 2 single beds), that is perfect for 2 families with a total of 8, like us. Rooms are not very spacious, that is normal in all central Lisboa, but are sufficient, clean and confortable. There is a fridge, a dishwasher and a washing machine, a coffee maker, and also some food like sugar, oil, etc. We stayed in Joao's apartment in a rainy March, the apartment has electric towel heaters and an electric air heater in the living room, and the temperature was ok. Sofia's checkin and checkout were perfect, and Joao's communications and suggestions were very clear and fast. Highly recommended.

The trips from the airport to the apartment and from the apartment to the airport were arranged by them, allowing us to enjoy from the beginning. The apartment is well located and perfectly matches the photos. It is furnished with great taste, and everything was clean. It's a good place to stay. As it’s an old building, the water supply is a bit noisy, and the stopcocks cut out from time to time, but that’s part of the charm of an old property. The place is amazing! Cozy, charming and well located. Although in a very old building, the flat has been refurbished to very high standards. What made our stay standing, was Joao's responsiveness to our needs. For instance, he got an extra cot for us, suggested places and restaurants to visit, and was attentive at every moment. Moreover, he arranged airport transfers and a day visit to Fatima, at very competitive prices. Joao and Christine are really nice hosts -they enjoy that- and because of their warm welcome we are planning to visit Lisbon again. Definitely a must!

We were well received with a service to pick us up from the airport, and a bottle of Portugal wine at the apartment. The accommodation is as described and illustrated in the image on the site. WiFi is working well. The location is very convenient, close to the Alfama district, close to Chateau St Georges, not far from the commercial square. There are also some well-rated restaurants on Trip Advisor next to the rental: Café Pit and Alpendre. I recommend it for a short stay.

During our stay in Lissabon, my three friends and I stayed in Jorge's appartement. The communication with Jorge was extremely easy, and so was our check-in and check-out. Jorge was very flexibel in regard to our timing on our arrival and departure day. The appartement is very beautiful and in the heart of an extremely nice neighbourhood with numerous little restaurants and cafés. It was very clean and we got fresh towels. The 3 bathrooms are great! However, if one wants to sleep in, it is almost impossible to use the 2 bedrooms which go towards the street. The pitoresque tram starts running at 7 o'clock in the morning and unless one is a very deep sleeper, one wakes up. The 2 bedrooms which go to the backside of the appartment are calm. All in all we had a great stay, thanks to Jorge and his hospitality!

The location is really perfect for an experience of the oldest and most picturesque historical area of Lisbon. Imo, it is the best place to be. Be prepared that an historical area means narrow streets and lovely tramway means tramway's noise: till 11 am especially in the rooms on street side, you won't ignore when it is passing by. But it is the counterpart of having the pleasure to stay at walking distance of all the most genuine and historical part of Lisbon. The flat is perfectly staged for AirBnB's stay, as appearing on pictures. Communication is easy and João efficiently helpful.

We had a great time in Lisbon and especially in this beautiful area of Alfama. The city is alive. It's nice to discover little corners at random in an alley to have a drink or dinner. The apartment is located in the Alfama neighborhood while being close to the subways (10 minute walk) and close to the center (15 minutes maximum from Pedro IV Square on foot). The apartment is good, equipped and functional. The interior is pretty and well-kept. We enjoyed the 3 bathrooms with shower and toilet. Choose rooms on the side opposite the street for more peace and quiet. Our host was responsive and attentive to our requests. Jean Marc.
