The space
Situated in a Grade II-listed building dating back to 1878, we can't help but swoon over this Alnwick apartment. It doesn't lack character, that's for sure – vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and antique knick-knacks like typewriters and old books are in abundance. We think it's the perfect blend of old and new, and nowhere is a better example of that than the open-plan living area. Bright and roomy, there's more than enough space here to spread out and get comfortable, whether you're tucking into a feast around the table or snuggling up in front of the fire. Cooking is anything but a chore in the glossy kitchen, and on rainy days, head up to the mezzanine for board games and billiards. There's also a communal garden for the summer months, where you can sip tea in the sunshine or cocktails at twilight.

And the location is excellent, too. Alnwick is as charming as they come, sprinkled with history and magic – no wonder they filmed Harry Potter here. Spend afternoons wandering down the cobbled lanes, popping in and out of the independent shops, cafes and bookstores that line the high street. The famous Alnwick Castle is just a short walk away, while the Northumberland coast is a thirteen-minute drive. In the evenings, forgo the home-cooking for a pint, delicious pub grub and live music at one of the cosy inns in town.

Guests have access to the full property. The keys to the property are accessed via a secure key safe and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date.

There are two private designated car parking spaces for The Old Workhouse available onsite. For additional or oversized vehicles, free on-street parking is available in front of the building.

Please note that one of the bedrooms at The Old Workhouse is on a mezzanine level, meaning that it is exposed to the living area below.

Confusing directions - is on a different road than address says
Confusing instructions to lock box - we were looking on the building not in car park
Although the building is the old workhouse the actual building is wagonway house
Check out too early
When asked where we could park was told anywhere - not strictly true
Ovens could do with a clean ( we didn’t use them however)

The location was excellent. A short walk into town and to Alnwick Gardens plus the park just round the corner was great for the kids and the dogs. The beds were very comfortable.

1 shower which was not based in the main bathroom was not ideal. It meant having to come into another persons bedroom to use their en suite. There were quite a few cobwebs on the beams and a fair bit of dust under the sofa.

The photos looked lovely and we were looking forward to staying in a rather elegant place. Some of the furniture didn’t match the photos- and the crockery, cutlery and glassware were not adequate for our stay.
Location is great, but venue overall was disappointing for the high price .
