Liked · This was a 3 storey, 4 bedroomed self catering property. The beds in all four rooms were really comfortable. It benefitted from one en-suite bathroom and a full main bathroom, The kitchen was well fitted out with ample storage space and more than enough pots and pans etc.. The lounge furniture was also very comfortable. Overall a very nice property.
Disliked · For me, personally, this was not a suitable property as I am partially disabled with mobility issues. There wre some very steep steps up to the front door. Initially we were given the wrong code for the key box, but a simple phone call got us the correct code. The stairs to the first floor were quite steep and the hand rail was only on one side and only went half way up, which caused me problems. In my opinion it would benefit from a hand rail on the opposite side all the way up towards the main bathroom. Before booking the property I did not see anything on the web site to advise of the steep steps and have spoken to the owner and suggested he add a comment to say the property is not suitable for people with mobility issues.
I also suggested that the cleaning company need to make sure that the ceiling/coving and light fixztures are cleaned to remove dustwebs. Other than that the property was very clean.
I requested a cot for the baby, which was supplied. We also found a baby's high chair in the cupboard.

Great location
Clean, tidy and plenty of seats to accommodate all guests
Waste bins outside was already full so no where to put out waste
Difficulty with unloading/ loading cars due to no parking space as all on road parking was taken

The house was okay. There are better places to rent. This was okay, but not particularly homely and quite sparse provisions - such as only 2 dish washer tablets and 1 tea towel.

Lovely clean house. Good location, didn’t have any problems to park
The key safe was extremely hard to get in and was too low, please move this do it is easier to get in, plus have a rail for the main stairs on both sides in the house, I had two old people with me who struggled with the stairs, plus the 5 steps as I fell coming down.

Central, and easy walk into the town centre . We managed to park right outside the house
If you had mobility difficulties this wouldn’t be an appropriate property due to all the stairs/steps

It was clean. Handy for the front if you are ok to walk up a short but steep hill. Cost property. I had no issue with my bedroom (main one). Plenty of lighting. Loved the dining room table to sit round playing games and chatting.
Lack of ‘stuff’ - logs, matches, dishcloths, only 2 loo rolls for potentially 8 people. If not provided, would be great if you could say, so people can bring it.
Parking - people. Wed to be prepared it is probably unlikely you’d get parked outside from what we saw. We did get 5 mins away though, for no fee - or there is the Co-op car park.
10am check out in a Sunday is standard but if you offered a later one, eg £40 for 2 hours, we’d pay it. Don’t like that you take the money from my account before the free cancellation period expires, or that we checked out on Sunday and it’s now Thursday evening and I don’t have my damage fee refunded.

Nice size property with great location. Nicely decorated and all required extras (tea, coffee, hairdryer iron etc)
Whilst the property had undergone a basic clean, bed sheets, pots etc there were a number of areas that had obviously been missed, under furniture, on shelves, deep clear of bathroom areas. Heating had been turned down and radiators turned off, so the house wasn’t welcoming.

The house was very well stocked with everything you need. A nice touch would have been a small amount of wood to put fire on when we arrived.
The house was mostly clean although my little dog found an old Maltese on the floor when we first arrived and some aspects of the house were a little less clean.
The house was lovely and warm.
The bathroom had some nice touches with available pouches of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel etc.
The bath and showers were lovely with nice towels provided.
The dining table was great for getting everyone around the table.
The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were really comfortable.
A couple of walls could do with a pit of a repaint eg on the stairs is a damp patch which has stained the wall.
Previous people had put their recycling in plastic bags which meant they weren’t taken away meaning we had to take our recycling back home with us as there wasn’t any space.
Whitby is lovely and well worth a visit, lots to see and do.

Location was perfect, within walking distance of the beautiful harbour and town. There were 8 of us and the house felt spacious with plenty of room for us to all relax together in the lounge. Slight issue with the heating but it was solved really quickly as soon as we reported it. Would thoroughly recommend and great value for money given the quality of the property and its location.

Pleasant decor, large house, 5 minutes walk to Whitby shops, dog friendly, comfy bed, 2 bathrooms, large dinning table and large lounge, most of the equipment you’ll need. On street parking good in October.
Don’t forget your own shampoo & soap, extra dishwasher tabs, coffee etc
Key box fiddly - very low - have to get on floor or put your back out tapping in the numbers. There’s still an old disused key box next to it that you can end up faffing about with until you realise it isn’t that one.
Hot bath tap not working when we were there, reported so may be fixed soon, but 2 showers make good

Gray Haven is a spacious family home. Tastefully decorated and within easy reach of all Whitby's amenities and within easy driving distance of local hotspots. As well as the many attractions Whitby has to offer a family ( the pirate ship tour is fab) Robin Hoods Bay is a must and so is the amazing Falling Foss and tea rooms, all within a 15 minute drive. Parking is not always possible directly outside the property but with 2 cars we always found somewhere close by to park.
The property itself is very well maintained and it was lovely for 8 of us to be able to sit at the spacious dining table together. Considering the close proximity to the center of Whitby the house was very peaceful.

Spacious property. Nice decor. Good location.
Early checkout was not good as we tried to extend from 10am to 12pm and were refused. Called back after 12 and no cleaner had been. Lack of tea towels and I felt coffee, tea and sugar. should have been provided in the empty jars like our other cottage stays. Another key as we were 2 couples. Front door was not easy to lock and unlock.

We had a lovely stay at Host & Stay’s. The accommodation was extremely central (5 minutes walk to the centre of whitby) and accommodated for 8 people and a dog. The accommodation was spacious.
The only negative was the two rooms on the third floor were a little small because of the low ceilings.
Otherwise the stay was perfect. Would recommend.

The house was very nice and in a good location. However our stay was spoiled due to the cot being hard to find (in a wardrobe on the top floor, thought they would have put it out for us as I requested one) and then not being able to find any sheets for the base of the cot. I contacted Host and Stay and they said they do not provide any linen for the cot. Totally ridiculous, it’s like not providing sheets for the bed I stayed in! I had also previously contacted them to double check that there was going to be a cot and sheets. So my baby had to sleep in the bed with me, not ideal. I wouldn’t book with this company again.

We had a lovely stay at the gray haven. The rooms were all clean and comfortable and the little extras like the toddler toile seat and step were really helpful as we had a 3 year old with us. The kitchen floor and the coffee table were a little sticky and we had to give them a clean when we arrived but everywhere else was clean and tidy and we would definitely stay again. The guide book with recommendations was also really useful. Thanks for a lovely stay.

We had a lovely weekend in the Gray Haven. The only downsides were the steep steps in the house and steps up to the house (which werent ideal for my mum who has mobility limitations) and that finding a nearby parking soace was tricky. However, the steps issue is my fault for not clearly checking that beforehand and neither issue was a major problem.
The house was very clean, cosy, comfortable well appointed and the location was excellent. Brilliant value for money and we would definitely stay again if we weren't with my mum.

Apartment was lovely, as described. Easy to find, great location. On arrival our heating wasn’t working because the batteries in the controller had ran out. Host and Stay were slow to respond then told us to go to the shop and replace them. We did and it still didn’t work. Host & Stay didn’t respond when I asked them to send someone as we had a baby and it was very cold. Despite our best effort to reset the boiler the heating still wouldn’t work. I rang them and they said they would contact someone. I received a call back from the owner who arranged to visit us a couple of hours later, around 10.30pm. He wasn’t able to fix it but left us 2 electric radiators. Really appreciated his efforts but spent out first night wrapped in blankets. To his due, the owner came back around 9.30 on Sat morning sorted the heating sorted within an hour. I received multiple messages from Host & Stay after that, no apology or offer of compensation, just reminding us we must be out by 10am Sunday.

The house was beautiful inside, lovely decor and really close to all the shops and sea front. They included a small milk which was a nice touch and there was tea / coffee already there (although not sure if they were left from previous guests).
The house was not cleaned to an appropriate standard. The bins hadn't been emptied and one of the ones in the bedroom had a used panty liner in it, which was not a nice discovery.
There were wet pots and pans in the kitchen drawers which had left big rust rings and puddles of water on the bottom, and they weren't particularly clean either. There was stuff left in the freezer from other people, which surprised me as it said they throw away anything that is left. There was generally just a sense of uncleanliness across the property despite them supposedly cleaning after each guest departs.

Thank you so much for making our stay wonderful and so homely. The place had a recently refurbished feel to it and loved the warm feeling it gave.
Also loved the little personal details like the dog treats and posh coffee machine and pods. Especially the cookies and Jam on arrival with the welcome booklet.
The only suggestion I would make as a partially sighted person would be to make the outside steps more noticeable with either step lights or strips (like painted yellow/white strips on the edges of the steps or similar) so it’s easier to see the depth. Almost had a bit of a tumble but was averted thankfully.
Will deffo book this property again in the future.
Thanks again
