We had a lovely stay at in York, the apartment was clean, well appointed, modern and a good location. The only issue was the unclear information provided at check in regarding the parking instructions, resulting in me receiving a parking fine. The instructions told me to park in the private parking bay, there was no mention about requiring a permit, however after complaining, it was then explained to me that hidden within a web link provided as ‘additional information about your stay’ the permit was mentioned. This information also does not state where inside the property the permit is located! This was only brought to my attention after I complained about the parking fine, and was explained in a way that made it out to be my fault. Very disappointing. I am now waiting for my parking ticket to be refunded.

St John’s Mews was a great location 10 mins walk to city. One car park space. The apartment was very homely and well laid out. Beds were very comfortable. We ate out for most meals just had snacks but kitchen looked well equipped. Oven could have done with a good clean but we never used that or the coffee machine. Only down side for us was no where to put any food apart from fridge/freezer no cupboard space at all we made do with leaving it in our shopping bag! The apartment is obviously in a residential building so we did have a bit of issue with the guy underneath who had difficulty with his door and needed to slam repeatedly when he entered late at night and exited before 8 in the morning! The apartment is great for exploring York and very comfortable. I’d definitely use this apartment again.

We had an excellent stay St John’s Mews. It’s in a short walking distance of the city where there is plenty to do. Stayed for a long weekend in Christmas markets and the location and facilities were perfect.

Very lovely stay! The apartment was in a great location, just a 10 minute walk to the city centre. The balcony was a lovely addition to the flag especially in the warm weather we had during our stay. The check in process was mostly smooth, however we phoned up about parking and the woman we spoke to did not know about our parking situation. It would have been good to know there was already a parking permit in our flat. The flat was fairly clean thought there were marks on the desk in one of the bedrooms and lots of dust on the bedside tables. The outside table also wasn’t clean. The beds were spotless however and the flat was beautifully decorated. Overall it was a very lovely stay and I would recommend this place if you’re staying in York.

Was dubious about booming this place as they asked for a security deposit off site. Airbnb assured me they were reputable. The flat was lovely but I made sure to video and photo the stains already on the carpet as £250 is a large deposit for damages. Instructions were terrible. The flat was not easy to find as it us not in the main building entrance. There is no permit. The parking instructions didn't say we needed one and there wasn't one anyway. We got 2 car parking fines despite following the badly written instructions . This company has obviously never been to this flat. My short 3 day break with my partner was broken by having to call hours between companies and Airbnb and their poor customer service line that had zero idea of this flat and messages etc. Totally ruined my trip. The only saving grace is the flat is nice. And they're going to reimburse the parking fines I received. But I'll have to wait two weeks, just like I have to wait two weeks for my deposit

Had a fantastic stay in the heart of the city! The location was perfect, but the only adventure was finding the keys. Once sorted, everything was smooth sailing.

My reason for a lower score is not because of the accommodation but due to the small print on the booking confirmation. Please note when you book, you will be asked for a deposit. I couldn't then cancel as I would loose money. 3 nights = £250 deposit. This is held 7 days after you check-out and then released to your account, taking another 3-5 days to process. I questioned this, but was advised the property would be inspected after we vacate, if so why would they need to hold the money for 7 days. If the property would then be used again by another guest, surely we vacate- the property is inspected and then the money is released if in good order? For this reason I will not book again with any accommodation which is connected to Host and Stay. I did receive my full deposit, 9 days after I checked out. £250 might not be a lot but this caused a lot of stress, I learned though. Accommodation is clean and central, parking space was taken by someone else. Advised to use bollard.

Whilst we cannot fault the apartment, cleanliness, location etc & quick response from Host to queries, the shine was taken off by the failure to guarantee the free parking which was stated on the advert. On arrival the allocated space was not available, and on contact to the host we were told the only option was to park in a paid car park in the town centre, at minimum £16 per day. Its a shame as the apartment was lovely, clean and comfortable with some basics of tea coffee and bathroom toiletries provided, & location was great to walk into town in 10 minutes, but wouldn't recommend booking if parking is important to you, as no support from the host once we raised as a problem. If parking had been available as advertised then this would have been a 5 star review all round

Great location, although post code takes you to a dead end street. Apartment very clean with everything needed for a short break. King beds are 2 singles pushed together which is not great. I would stay there again.

Lovely apartment really close to the heart of the city. Beautifully appointed. Comfortable beds and great bathrooms. The ONLY downside was the water temperature. Showers were luke warm and impossible to get sufficient hot water for a bath. That was a real disappointment after a chilly day walking around the city.

There are pros and cons with any place… Pros: great location, thoughtfully decorated, great balcony, great cooking facilities, a nice atmosphere. Cons: very confusing checkin, it wasn’t obvious from the instructions that you need the fob on the key ring to lower the barrier to get into the car park. You get the key from the bike store as stated in the instructions but the bike store is not obvious. 2 circles of the building we found it, it just looks like a cupboard and is not signposted as the bike store. During our stay someone was parked in the designated car park space for the whole stay. Also the double bed was 2 singles pushed together, this was very uncomfortable as it means you can’t sleep in the middle of the bed without the 2 mattresses separating and a crevice forming. Therefore you have to sleep within the boundaries of the single mattress. I had 2 nights poor sleep out of 3 and for this reason I wouldn’t stay again.

Really beautiful place, a short walk from York main centre. Brand new apartment with luxurious furniture. Don't agree with the extortionate deposit and extra admin fee added after booking. communication with hosts very good until advised then WiFi password would not work and they no longer responded. only criticism of the place is they need instructon manuals to use things like oven and heating etc as has to spend long time working this out. overall I would recommend

Great apartment and convenient location for York city centre which is just a short walk away. Clean with nice underfloor heating in the bathroom but the hot water wasn’t very hot at all even though on the max setting in the shower The communication needs to be vastly improved. The check-in process was far from satisfactory (even though this challenge has been raised by other guests before in their reviews). Surely a simple (and accurate!) step by step instruction with pictures is not too much to ask? I had to call the office to seek assistance and was told to go through the door marked number 5. That was someone’s apartment! M Further confusion experienced with the check-out time meant that we felt we needed to leave earlier than agreed. This was regrettable. Also there was an additional cost and questions to answer (to a third party) once the booking had been made. This was a surprise to me and if stated in the terms must have been buried deep in the depths!

Lovely apartment in great location. Spotlessly clean and well equipped. However, directions were poor (no mention of bollards which meant the car park could only be accessed via the Abbot Street of Garden Street, information about mandatory insurance cost was buried in the listing and involved giving away personal data. Hot water was intermittent and we had to keep switching the immersion heater off and on again. Response to complaint was super quick though. And we only managed to get the key out of the bike store because a previous reviewer had warned it needed a very gentle touch.

Great apartment in fantastic location. beautifully appointed. Couldn't fault it. Little frustrations. Check in process is convoluted. For a while we couldn't open the bike shed despite having the code. Turns out the handle needs a gentle touch. No problem if you know that. Big problem if you don't. Brochure could be clearer and significantly more comprehensive. How does the heating work, how do all the lights work, recommendations on places to eat (other than just one cafe!!),etc. Overall, place is fab, but attention to guest engagement with an environment they don't know, needs attention. Four out of five.

The apartment and the listing were top notch, but I had some significant problems with check in on the property. Although the Host provided a full website brochure on the property and how to check in and what was around, the information inside was severely lacking to a point where we could not access the property. I had 4 different messages about pass codes and entry points. Including incorrect codes. This task was made even harder by being provided the wrong door entry codes and the information deck not providing the correct information as to where to find keys etc All in all I was pleased with the facilities and stay in the apartment, but the check in experience was awkward. I was able to contact the host by phone and get the correct information quickly from the agent that answered the phone.
