Unfortunately, the property was not in an acceptable condition for us to stay in. On arrival, we found it to be dirty, unkempt and clearly not properly prepared for incoming guests. Most concerningly, the beds had not even been made, which raises serious concerns about whether the property had been adequately cleaned or the bedding changed following the previous guests. Externally, the property is also considerably more shabby and poorly maintained than we anticipated from the listing. However, we were prepared to overlook the external appearance as our main requirement was very simple: a clean, hygienic and comfortable environment in which we could rest and sleep. Unfortunately, the property has failed to provide even that basic standard. This is not a matter of personal preference or the property simply not meeting our expectations aesthetically; cleanliness and properly prepared sleeping arrangements are fundamental requirements of any paid accommodation.

We had a great stay. The cottage was well presented, cosy and clean. A lovely modern bathroom and also comfortable bedrooms and clean linen. Hope Cottage is perfectly located a short 10-15min walk away from the centre down a short steep hill with lovely views. It was a little tricky to find but we had no trouble finding parking once we had.

Disgusting bed linen. Full refund was provided by Airbnb after photographic evidence was provided. We left the property after pulling back the bed sheets and finding numerous stains and hair all over the bedding.

The cottage was in a great location, easy walkable distance to the centre of Whitby. First impressions of the cottage inside was that it was clean however, there was a general odour of dog, dust and cobwebs in the corners of the living room. The fridge could have done with a little wipe over before new guest arrive as there was dry flaky milk in the corners of the door compartments The upstairs did not match the downstairs. The bathroom and both bedrooms were immaculate, beautiful decorated and the beds were so comfortable. I would recommend this property only for the location.

First impressions of this property lead to a disappointing stay. The hedge was very tall and overgrown making it difficult to open the gate . The lawn and garden untidy and the properties windows have not been cleaned in a very long time. Inside first impressions were that the property was superficially clean but the shower was mouldy , sofas and soft furnishings stained and the kitchen floor was sticky and unwashed. A general odour of dog could not be masked by the numerous air fresheners in the property . There is thick dust in every corner and lots of cobwebs. The host was apologetic offering to send a cleaner but the house needs a deep clean as it is showing signs of neglect . I would not recommend this property.

Lovely little cottage in a good lovation and only a short walk downhill to the town. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom were modern and well planned. There is no washing machine but for a four nigjt stay this was no problem.if you are elderly or infirm be aware that the stairs are quite steep. The garden is at the front.and up 2 steps. A tall hedge gives some privacy and shade. There is a large Sainsburys a couple of miles away and a large Co oP in town where there are many good seafood restaurants and takeaways. All in all we had a lovely 4 night stay and hope to come again.

Hope Cottage in Whitby was a lovely, cosy cottage. Just as pictured and described. The whole place was clean and nicely decorated. The little garden is cute. The beds were comfortable. The linen and towels all very clean and good quality. Kitchen very well equipped. An extra tea towel would have been useful. There was plenty of teabags, coffee sachets and milk sachets. I was annoyed by the number of messages received from Host & Stay especially the upselling. However that did not ruin my experience and I would book again!

Great stay 🌟🌟 The location was perfect, just a short walk into town, which made everything really convenient. The house itself felt very homely and comfortable, and we especially appreciated the secure, gated front garden so the dogs could safely go outside. The only addition that would have made the stay even better is a washing machine. We were on a bit of a road trip and, although it was my oversight not checking the listing, it’s the only Airbnb I’ve stayed in without one. It’s not a deal breaker for a short stay, but something worth considering if you’re planning a longer trip.

Great house for a couple or small family. Good, quiet location in walking distance of the main part of town. Though it's street parking we were able to park right outside the property. The house was clean including the kitchen and bathroom with dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid etc all supplied. There were a few dusty corners in the house so it could probably benefit from a deep clean. Enough stuff in the kitchen for basic cooking. The hosts communicated really well, however they did tell me to go outside of Airbnb to their site to fill in a form and pay a deposit for breakages, however I asked to keep everything in Airbnb and that was fine - I didn't pay any extra deposit.

The cottage was comfortable and a good location; we walked to centre of town in 10 minutes. We may have been spoiled by other hosts but it lacked nice touches we frequently experience, like a welcome pack. The property was generally very clean although there were some cobwebs and pet hairs on sofa - we’re dog owners but wouldn’t let dogs on seating. We easily found parking on the street and it was a quiet residential road. All in all, we’d recommend and would stay again.

Lovely cottage on the edge of Whitby only a short walk and plenty of parking. There is a steep short hill to walk up as a few reviews have mentioned. Loved the enclosed garden for the dogs, house was spotless and looks just like the photos. Just a few things to note the security deposit is more expensive than advertised on here (maybe the advert needs updating) and there are rules about where the dogs can go in the house which again is not detailed on Airbnb

great stay, cottage had everything we needed, well presented, and handy for town. We managed to park close by which was helpful as street parking gets busy. Useful having front garden with gate so we could leave the front door open to let the dogs out. Would highly recommend the cottage and look forward to visiting again

Lovely home, but since they allow dogs. Downstairs was just a no go for us. Wet dog isn't a pleasant smell at all. Specially when you don't own dogs yourself. Upstairs was more manageable. However even though it's against the rules, the bedroom blankets stunk like wet dog. It's a shame really, other than that. Happy. But the dog owners are what brings this listing down. Also felt like the price was pretty high.

The location of the Airbnb is brilliant to explore Whitby and the surrounding areas. We had no problem finding free parking on the road, and it was an easy walk to the sights in Whitby. The enclosed garden was brilliant for our dog Chipper. The main bed was very comfortable and the shower was lovely. Plenty of hot water! We would recommend a stay here to others, but do have a couple of points of constructive feedback: Although the listing said kitchen basics would be provided, we couldn’t find any oven gloves or cooking oil, which would have been helpful. The heating system was also quite noisy, which stopped us having a perfect night sleep.

Whitby is fabulous! Our stay at hope cottage was very relaxing in a peaceful street. It was great that we could stay with our two little dogs. The garden at the front of the house was secure and handy. The house was lovely and warm. My husband enjoyed the large hot shower. We had everything we needed. We ate out so didn’t use the cooker or dishwasher but all the cooking equipment was available. The decor was cute and we were comfortable and cosy. The cottage was nice and clean , the double bed was comfortable with nice fresh bedding. We really enjoyed our little get away and would recommend the cottage to couples with dogs. ❤️❤️❤️

We have just returned from a weekend break, on arrival the cottage was lovely and clean & welcoming (although my only gripe was the heating is a hive heating system and it would have been nice to walk into some warmth - it was freezing and took the full day to warm up- but that’s me being really picky!) the walk to shops and restaurants was as described a 10 minute walk away, overall we had a lovely peaceful stay, parking wasn’t a problem we parked outside on the road all weekend. The king size bed was so comfortable (my hubby tried having a look at the make to buy one!) the bathroom was lovely and the shower was 10/10.

A cosy, well equipped cottage a short, down hill walk from the centre of Whitby (short steep hill on the way back!) Pleased to have a clear link to find the property as it is slightly tucked away. The agency was responsive in dealing with any queries. Easy on street parking.

We had a lovely and comfortable two nights stay at this property. It was very well decorated, modern and clean and had everything we needed. I would definitely book again and would recommend a stay here.

Great location to Whitby in quiet area although address is hard to find. House was really clean and perfect for what we needed. The single bed is very creaky and would benefit for a couple of extras such as more toilet roll, kitchen roll etc, no hand soap in bathroom… otherwise great stay and would stay again.

We had a lovely six night stay at Hope Cottage which is an easy walk to Whitby Harbour. It was a welcome surprise to find how quiet it was in the street given it is peak holiday season and we had no trouble parking! A nifty fold out table in the living room and two sofas is all you need and the beds are very comfortable while the bathroom is great with a walk in shower. A pocket garden at the front is also nice to have and overall, we had a really enjoyable stay.

We had a comfortable stay at Hope Cottage and everything was pretty much as described without any wow factor, it was just OK. The bed mattress was very firm and while the bed was a king size as in the description, the duvet was a standard double which just seems such an obvious and easy thing to rectify, it just seems a lack of care and attention to detail. We stayed in the coldest June week for five years and although the heating kept us warm down stairs, upstairs always seemed cold. The most disappointing aspect was the scruffy state of the garden which did not give a good first impression when we arrived. The grass looked like it has been cut with a strimmer or a blunt pair of shears and the front hedge was very over grown to the extent it was starting to obstruct the gate which is the only access to the property. We did report this to Host and Stay who seem to offer a rather impersonal distant service with bog standard generic messages.

It's a great little place, perfectly placed. It's walking distance into town, with none of the noise. It would have been top marks if it was not for the extra charges. I would not mind if they were all there, as you pay for the place initially, but they are not. One of the additional costs came up to the same price we paid for the stay.

We had a wonderful stay here! Brilliant property for a small family looking for a cosy place to stay all within walking distance of Whitby centre. We had a slight issue with the postcode not taking us directly to the property but soon found it once we had a quick look on maps. All in all I would definitely recommend staying here if you want to be able to walk into the centre (5 min walk) but far enough out so it’s peaceful as well.

Loved our stay in Hope Cottage for 3 nights. The cottage was very clean and comfortable with all the amenities you could need. Modern bathroom with lovely shower. Nice size bedrooms with comfortable beds. There is an enclosed garden at the front of the property so we were safe in the knowledge our cocker spaniel couldn’t get out. Perfectly located for walking into Whitby just a 10 min walk. As you walk into Whitby there is a big Co-op for any shopping and also the main bus and train station. We were very lucky with the parking and managed to park outside the cottage for the time we stayed there. A very enjoyable stay and we would definitely return 😊

We had a nice stay in this cottage located near the centre of Whitby. I’d say the house is a perfect size for a couple + pet. Although there’s a second bedroom it’s quite small and would be a bit cramped with a third adult. The bathroom especially was lovely. Everything is walking distance, the parking is on street but there’s plenty available nearby and we had no issues parking in front of the house each night. We used the house as a base to travel to surrounding areas like Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay. There’s a Co-Op 5 minutes away for food supplies and lots of restaurants nearby. Would definitely recommend Magpie Cafe for fish and chips, and Humble Pie n’ Mash for some comfort food. Only negatives I can say about the cottage is the curtains weren’t black out and the sunlight woke us up early each morning. Some of the dishes and mugs were also dirty and I had to re-wash them before use. We’ll definitely be back to Whitby in future and would love to stay here again.

Whilst Hope Cottage is beautifully decorated and very clean I was disappointed by the size of the downstairs living area. Just big enough for 2x 2 seater sofas in front room and with anything more than 2 adults I would describe space as challenging. My biggest gripe is with the fact that cottage is hosted by an agency - and I really felt the difference with this in comparison to a real Air B&B. When I contacted 'Host & Stay' about issues with the property (for example, no signal on TV) it was clear that the agents that I spoke to (different people each time) had no personal knowledge of the house at all. I was asked by one agent to make a film of the TV and email over so they could suggest trouble shooting ideas. When I rang again there was no record on the system (apparently) of this conversation. Oven was impossible - I couldnt call again. No info about rubbish or recycling - would have been helpful. I simply would not choose to rent with Host & Stay again for all of the above!

Great stay here with my partner and dog which we booked mainly for close proximity to beach & town (probably a 15 minute walk from the house through the town). Walk to town is about 10 minutes which is very handy as we didn’t have to move the car at all during our stay. Managed to get a spot outside the house which we were lucky to get having read other reviews. All amenities in the house as listed and very clean/tidy. Good recommendations from host company also. Only slight hiccup was having to wait until 16:30 for the lock box code to get in after arriving at 15:55. Assumed code would be sent straight through at check-in time, but had to chase. Other than that, would recommend and stay again 👍

Lovely Cottage in whitby in a terraced but very quiet street. Only 10 mins walk into the centre. Comfy, warm with everything that you need. Street parking but was able to park close each night. Easy check in with key code and easy access, excellent communications from host, recommended.

cottage was nice, very hard to find after a long snowy drive there, i think that clouded our view. I think the advert is misleading as it indicates that its central Whitby when its a good 10 minute walk from the centre. this could be OK but I'd booked it due to the central location as I was travelling with an older person whose mobility is poor. I think if the advert clearly stated (before you booked) that its a good 10 minutes walk from the centre this would have been better.

Quaint little cottage. Great walkable location within easy access of all Whitby's attractions (of which there are many) including the train station, beach and Abbey. Access simple, cottage clean, bed very comfortable and shower fab!. Handy contained grassed/hedged little front garden which was perfect for our two small dogs and lovely to watch the birds of a morning. Lots of local businesses very dog friendly. Parking is on street which is limited but we found a spot with no issue and didn't use the car again until we left for home. Only negatives were the lack of washing machine (we walked a lot in the lovely countryside and would have appreciated being able to clean our muddy clothes) and the lack of recycling facilities (none! Hated putting cans and bottles in the rubbish)

What a great little property! For using as a base it had everything you could possibly want. We stayed with our dogs and the huge benefit was the enclosed garden, absolutely perfect. Everywhere was clean and tidy and the bed was super comfy slept like a dream every night. We managed to get our car close ish on arrival but do be prepared for a bit of a walk as space is really short. 5 minute stroll downhill to the old town, a bit of a steep uphill coming back but think of that exercise. Would definitely stay here again, thank you so much for a wonderful holiday.

Lovely cottage just a short walk from the town, was perfect for us and had everything we needed. Gorgeous bathroom, fab shower and comfy beds. Host&Stay we’re really helpful and always responded quickly. All the restaurant recommendations were fabulous we really appreciated the info as we hadn’t stayed in Whitby before. We had a great time! It took us a little while to find the place but that was only because we hadn’t read the instructions well enough to see that the house is on a different street to the actual address and using the postcode sat nav takes you down the wrong road!

Everything at Hope Cottage was perfect. We had a fabulous stay and would reccommend it to friends and family. It was a home from home and everything had been thought about. Great location too! The only thing that we hadn't anticipated was the slightly tricky parking out on the road. It's narrow and windy but we tucked oursleves into a space nearby so it was fine. Thanks Host & Stay we love Hope Cottage, Whitby!

Lovely cosy clean cottage with all facilities and comfy beds, Wi-Fi, enclosed garden for dogs (essential) walking distance to Whitby centre, easy access and exit arrangements. On street parking can be difficult as is limited and tight to manoeuvre into as very narrow streets. Only downside to mention is £250 damage deposit required 14 days before stay commences and not released till up to 10 days after stay. A short stay doubles the price initially and is a lucrative way to earn interest for companies. Not had to pay this with most Airbnb’s stayed in.

2 Hope Terrace is lovely end terrace property with everything you need as a base to explore Whitby and beyond. It is a 5 min walk into Whitbt itself and you are right by the historic NYM steam railway when you get into town. Also of you have a young family with you, then 2 mins walk in the other direction is a fantastic play area. Host was a great communicator and provided great instructions and details about the area. Property was spotless when we got there. We would definitely stay there again when we come back.

This was a gorgeous cottage with a very comfortable bed! Everything we needed was there. Great location and perfect for our dogs. Very responsive host.
