The listing was misleading saying theres parking on the premises- this is false advertising as there is not any parking. I did contact Host and stay about this, but its not been updated. We couldn’t find street parking so had to pay to park in the marina car park about 10 minutes walk back up a steep hill which is not ideal for disabled or elderly. This aside the property was overall a lovely house. The kitchen was clean and very well equipped. The toilet, bath and sink in the bathroom were clean, floor wasn’t very clean and there’s mould around the shower and between the shower and bath. Nice clean towels and bedding provided. All beds comfortable. Blankets available too and heating worked well. Very steep narrow steps up to the attic room and steps down into the bathroom. Living room was well set up but the once cream sofa was turning grey and needs a clean. It’s a great location, close to town but quiet. Don’t recommend for anyone with physical disability.

We had an amazing time here, we have 2 children age 6 and age 3, it was within walking distance of all local amenities, no need for a buggy, they walked all the way. The property itself is brilliant for small children as it is totally enclosed front and back, again brilliant for our dog. I did not worry at all about any of them getting out onto the road.
The house is lovely, so much bigger than I imagined, loads of space for my children to play, really clean and tidy, clean towels lots of extras like washing capsules after getting messy at the beach.
Thank-you for a great stay!

Lovely place to stay - really comfortable
Immaculate and had everything you could possibly need
The owners were lovely and really helpful and really take pride in their Airbnb . Its beautiful.
Little disappointed that due to being managed by a company , the company added on a last minute insurance charge - I would rather have had this included in the original price
However other than this, the stay was perfect .

Lovely little retreat - tastefully decorated- warm & comfortable- but there are steepish stairs so not for people with restricted mobility
Could have done with more information about rubbish disposal
Also there’s a little step in the front garden that could do with highlighting

House itself is a lovely house.... location ok ....
Sofa was fabric and as a dog friendly accommodation really not appropriate. Sofa really grubby and we could smell dog .We all have dogs ourselves but we did find this a real problem .

The house was conveniently located-only a 8 minute walk to the centre of Whitby
The property was clean and tidy and had a welcoming and comfy feel. The kitchen was fully stocked with all.of.the essentials. I felt we had all of the provisions we needed. I'd definitely stay here if I was ever in Whitby again.
The only downside was the shower. There was an issue with the temperature knob and the only options for the water was hot or hotter. It would be great if the hosts could address the issue as a matter of urgency.
This isn't a criticism of the property, it is typical of buildings of this era. I like to mention it for anyone who has mobility concerns. The stairs in the property are steep and so if you struggle to move up and down stairs please consider that there may be difficulty making your way up and down.

Lovely place. Clean, spacious and nicely decorated. Comfortable to relax in and well equipped. Managed to get parked either in same street or on an adjacent street. Fish and chip shop on same street was handy for first night quick tea. Walkable into town. 2 steps down into bathroom from landing, but night light in plug socket kindly provided on landing helped with safety of use at night. Would stay again and recommend to others.

Fantastic value for money we actually felt like we under paid when you compare this to other smaller more expensive town houses. The house is massive and has everything you need. We even got chance to speak to the owner afterwards who was lovely to my partner and baby, you can tell she takes great pride in her property. Thank you for a lovely stay.
There’s nothing we didn’t like I would literally be knit-picking.

Great location, lovely house, beautiful rooms, gardens smaller than they looked in pictures , back yard could do with some renewals and cleaning, great kitchen, lovely bathroom. managed to get parking but think it's misdiscribed in the listing (sounds like it's part of the property) and the early checkout and late check in doesn't seem worth it. overall had a great stay

We had a fabulous stay at Railman’s Rest. Infact, it has been our favourite Air B&B find so far. Really spacious house with plenty of room for the four of us plus our two little sausage dogs. Beautifully decorated & really well equipped. We were really grateful for the welcome package & delighted to find fresh milk and apple juice in the fridge. I was also really impressed to find female sanitary products in the bathroom which was a considerate small touch!
Overall I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a convenient base to explore Whitby, which is only a 10 minute stroll away.
I would agree with other comments that an additional bathroom would be useful (especially as there’s plenty of space for an en-suite on the top floor or master bedroom!) but we did manage with one between the four of us ok.
Thank you for a fantastic stay, we look forward to returning soon!

Fabulous stay at Railmans Rest. Cosy, clean and very comfortable with a great welcome tray on arrival. Great location with easy access to the town and all the amenities. Sooooo…….the property is fabulous! Immaculately clean, everything you need and in a great location.
I really did not want to leave a bad review because the property was so good. However, after complaining and getting no resolution I feel I’ve had no choice. I booked this property for 8 people and when we arrived it actually only accommodates 6 people, 2 members of our party had to return home. Host and stay who managed the property were dam right useless! I complained a month ago and have only just had a very blunt reply saying no compensation will be provided, not even an explanation as to why it let me book a property for 8 people when it actually only accommodates 6! We’ve had an awful experience! Our holiday was ruined! Like I say, this is a shame because the property is beautiful and in an excellent location! This has purely been an error on the company that manages the property. Quite honestly, a word to the owner, manage the property yourselves, you will do a better job!
Let me book for 8 when actually only accommodates 6

Fantastic property beautifully decorated and really well equipped. Kitchen was fantastic with loads of crockery and glasses. Nice welcome pack which was really appreciated. Fell lucky with free parking right outside house. Easy check in. Property was spotless on arrival. Only negative was would have been great to have another toilet/en-suite when there are 5 of you but we knew when we booked it didn’t have that so only a comment for consideration. Having the option for early check in or late check out would also have been good but appreciate not always possible at busy times

A lovely couple of days staying at Railman’s Rest. It had a real home from home feel about it. Immaculately clean and very spacious. The bedding and towels all smelt amazing!
Nice touch from the host leaving items for our arrival , such as milk, juice, cookies, tea bags etc (not many places do this, and I feel it makes all the difference) even sanitary products in the bathroom were available.
My boys were impressed with a PS4 in their room on the top floor.
Location was perfect. Maximum 10 minute walk into the town centre.
Overall, a wonderful couple of days, thanks to such homely accommodation. Will definitely return and would highly recommend.

Beautifully presented home, tastefully decorated. Central location, easy walk into town yet peaceful, with a very friendly pub a fee doors away. Welcome pack provided - much appreciated after a long drive - and plenty of books and games to keep us entertained in front of the log burner. Spotlessly clean. Ideally located for exploring Whitby on foot, or going wider afield to explore the stunning coast and countryside - lots of recommendations and useful info provided by the hosts. No allocated parking but we had no problems finding on-street parking very close to the property. Highly recommended, wish we could have stayed longer.

It’s was just right for the 6 of us space wise. Really convenient getting to the centre of Whitby.
Our only criticism was that the accommodation could benefit from a second bathroom or perhaps an en-suite
Overall though we would definitely stay again in the future

We had a lovely few days at the Railman’s Rest. The location was very convenient, 10 min walk max to centre of Whitby, the large co op, bars and restaurants.
The house is beautifully presented with lovely welcome touches (local tea, local cake etc.) and all the equipment you need in a house. Very clean and very comfortable, we felt right at home.
Parking is obviously a little tricky, but that’s not this property, but any in Whitby really, but we got both cars parked within 1 min of the house and there were clear instructions on car parks nearby anyway.
The location was brilliant, quiet little street, really friendly local pub on the corner and a fish and chip shop opposite that. The walk back from town is up a steep hill, which keeps you fit! My elderly parents managed it, slowly, but it would be difficult if significant mobility issues, although there were always taxis in town and Whitby is hilly!
Thank you for a lovely stay, we would thoroughly recommend to others

Really spacious house with everything you could need. The rooms were all spotless and the bedrooms were really comfortable.

The house was beautiful, felt homely but not like we were staying in someone else's home. Most facilities were great and the beds were super comfy.
The toilet wasn't working on arrival. We contacted Host and Stay who said they would get the owner to contact us. However, no-one contacted us and in the end my dad had to fix the toilet for us. It was up a steep hill so if you're walking into Whitby and back, brace yourself! We were lucky with finding parking nearby, but its not ideal if you can't find a space on the local streets.

A beautiful cottage within a short walk from Whitby town. The hosts have thought of everything to make guests feel at home - beautiful clean bedding, comfortable seating areas, a well stocked immaculate kitchen with so many glasses, plates, utensils, a washing machine and dishwasher. We were delighted to find fresh milk, tea bags and cake on our arrival - after a long journey this was so welcome. Bonus for us was being able to take our little chihuahua. Bonus for our granddaughter was the games console in her bedroom. I highly recommend this property.

Really nice house - well maintained and good location for accessing town. House was difficult to find and parking was very difficult in local streets. Also resented having to pay another £25 damage waiver - why not just include it in the asking price? Also no mention of the steepness of the stairs to the top bedroom.
We had a lovely stay but deal with these extra issues and it would have been 5 stars!!

The house was amazing.. home from home. decorated beautiful with everything you needed was supplied.
warm friendly bed comfy we had a special trip to whitby
fabulous unexpected gift of tea coffee sugar milk cake and biscuits on arrival. this just made everyone smile so much and was truly grateful .. thank you ever so much Railmans Rest. Will absolutely book again
Nothing really everything was amazing.
Maybe a down stairs loo might be helpful when 6 stayed.
But in all fairness there was absolutely Nothing we didnt like about the home
HOST AND STAY
Was not happy with having to pay a non returnable waiver charge of £25
or £250 pounds deposit with a return of £240 giving £10 for administration.
This I found to be a "Blackmail" situation as when I telephoned Host and Stay..to question this extra charge .. Got told I "will not get the keys to the property unles I did 1 or the other." !!
I totally as have done for many years, pay a damage bond to be returned after a No damage Stay but this was a new way of collecting an extra £25 to a company we have already paid a fee to when booking.
This comment has absolutely nothing to do with Railmans Rest communication and our stay at their property

A beautiful property, very comfortable. More than enough room for the four of us (2 adults and 19 and 17 year olds) and a dog. The property is 5 minute walk into Whitby so we didn’t need to drive anywhere. The kitchen is well stocked and the little touches such as milk, tea bags and chocolate biscuits were very welcome. The bedrooms are very spacious.
I cannot fault the house at all, except maybe an extra toilet but that’s just preference. If you’re coming and going a lot, that hill back up to the house is a killer on the 4th or 5th time! Kept us fit though!

Great location, property had everything we needed. Could get parked either on the road or round the corner.
Had to pay a £25 damage waiver, which wasn't made very clear. I've never had to pay this before and we've booked lots of cottages over the years, it's clearly used as a stealth tax. Certainly won't be staying anywhere managed by Host and Stay in the future.

Great cottage - all the bedrooms are a really decent size, with very comfortable beds. Lovely little front garden (fully fenced and secure - handy if you have a dog), plus a courtyard at the back. Well equipped kitchen, with plenty of plates, mugs, glasses etc. Although the house was very cold when we arrived, it was lovely and warm once we had sorted out the heating and lit the log burner. The two teenagers loved the TVs in the bedrooms! A short walk into the town centre (a bit of a climb back if you struggle with mobility).

Good location, very close to the main part of town, those with mobility issues might have issues with the steep bank near the cottage though.
Lovely decor, lots of space, all essential amenities provided (plus a few modern extras!) and it was very clean which was great. Towels and bedding were of a very good standard. A welcome package with a couple of essential groceries and local delicacies was a really nice touch. The kids especially loved the twin room and the fact we were able to sign into Netflix etc on the TVs.
Overall we had a lovely stay, the property it taken care of and the owners certainly make an effort to keep it to a good standard. We would definitely recommend this property.
Minor gripe only with the front bedroom - the sash windows whilst very nice, and in keeping with the decor and age of the property, didn’t block out the noise of late night revellers.

We had a fantastic week at Railman's Rest in Whitby. The house is a great property to stay and entertain, with great sized rooms and a lovely living/dining space! location is also very convenient for the town and tourist spots - all a short walk away!
Some thoughts from our week:
- it's a short walk into town, but it's steep. worth keeping in mind if you are not steady on your feet/use a walking aid.
- parking is available on the street and surrounding streets, though it was busy at the weekend when we arrived. we managed to park on the next street along and moved outside the house when we noticed a space later.
- there is a local pub, chip shop and newsagent all within a moment's walk. A very well stocked co-op is less than 10 minutes away - good for getting supplies.
- Whitby is generally pram friendly, though the street to the abbey is a no-go as it is steep! recommend a baby carrier for this one.

Lovely property, well furnished and with comfortable beds and an excellent kitchen! Only a few minutes walk into the town centre, and with a pub and a fish and chip shop within a literal stone's throw. My children appreciated the presence of a games console in their room!

A lovely place to stay, really enjoyed our break. The house is great and has everything you need. Only slightly negative thing I could say is that if you're not good on your feet the walk into the town is a bit steep in places.

clean, very secure, aesthetically pleasing, well equipped, good size for our needs
could do with helix blinds at the windows, struggled to fit 6 adults comfortable in the lounge without using a dining chair

Lovely home in a great location in Whitby. A perfect base for exploring the Yorkshire coastline and Moors

Great property in an excellent quiet location for walking access to the town centre. The owners have spared no expense in creating a "home from home" of notable character. All the small details to make guests feel welcome were much appreciated and, in summary, I would highly recommend Railmans Rest and the Stay team.
