The space
This newly refurbished two storey house is a gorgeous little getaway by the sea.Access to the property is through a traditional walkway lined with crab pots, instantly giving you that wonderful fisherman’s village experience.

The round wooden dining table seats four people comfortably with farmhouse style chairs and blue striped cushions.
The downstairs is a bright space flooded with light from the large sash windows.
Back through the living area to the rear of the property you will find the bathroom. This is a modern style wet room fitted with an electric shower, WC and basin. Small grey tiles cover the walls and floor, the room is finished off with a wall hung mirrored cabinet and chrome heated towel rail.

We really enjoyed our stay in this little cottage. We got takeout from the pub and spent hours walking the rock pools and crabbing off the pier. This cottage was the perfect base and with the fire going in an evening, it was blissful. My advice is take some fire lighters and logs to get the fire going. and some slippers so you can get really cosy.

Was bang next to the harbour.could sit in the kitchen to eat. Well equipped kitchen. Shower spacious.
Not enough instructions on how to use things. No contact number for host to ask them about any how to use cooker. Towel rack was heatjbf for bathroom and it was so hot it burned you to touch it. What really disliked was Host and stays compulsory large deposit for damage which they held for 2 weeks then automatically took 11 pounds off or to take their insurance for 25. This to me is unfair terms and would not use them again. When booking through you I thought would be using your terms and conditions. Would like to be treated as a complaint.

Not the best Air BnB we’ve ever stayed in- house felt quite unloved and not homely at all which was a shame. Needs some TLC- lots of stains on walls, stain on blankets, dusty, holes that need filling in bathroom, missing pieces in all games. It was cold on arrival and no firewood available to start a fire, all local shops shut so unable to buy any, would have been nice for a few to be left or heating to be set to come on for arrival- this would be easy as it had smart thermostat. Loud noise started between 7:30-8am over the weekend right outside due to fisherman fixing crab nets so no lay in unfortunately. It’s also the only place we have had to pay extra after booking for insurance so beware of this extra cost. Parking and dropping off bags was really difficult.
Despite the above, it’s in a great location right near the beach and good pubs. Bed was super comfy and they left extras for us such as tea, coffee, milk and toiletries which was nice.
All in all probably wouldn’t recommend.

This is a very cosy cottage in a wonderful location. Right near the beach/harbour and everything you need. We were 4 adults and 3 dogs and was a bit of a squeeze but we were out most of the day anyway. Great walks and pubs nearby.

Great location close to the harbour, the narrow street to the cottage is opposite the side entrance to the Cod and Lobster, slightly to the left. There is an excellent kitchen - everything you could need- all clean and well presented. Beds were comfy, good shower, appreciated the under floor heating in bathroom, plenty of hot water. There were 3 of us, all adults and we were cosy and comfortable in the property. Will definitely stay again!
Nothing to dislike, a couple of suggestions: it would be helpful to have some kindling for the open fire, especially for people arriving later in the evening, and it would be helpful to have the location of the switch for the water heater, and the exact location of the cottage (opposite the pub) noted in the otherwise really helpful online guide.

Charming cottage in great location in Staithes. We had a lovely time although wouldn’t stat at another airB&B serviced by Host and Stay out of choice. Lack of instructions although paid an extra £25 (rather than a large deposit and £10 admin fee) for insurance as a hidden extra cost which I’ve not experienced before.

The cottage is absolutely beautiful so well considered comfortable and stylish. The kitchen is really well stocked with all of the equipment you could need and modern appliances. Located in a fabulous place close to the beach. Unfortunately it was absolutely freezing on arrival, we have stayed in Staithes many many times and have benefitted from some complimentary logs left as we arrived on a Sunday check in is pretty late….. so it would have been lovely to have been left a couple of logs given how late check in is…. We know heating is a challenge in Staithes however with the ttechnology available it is possible to work around. also very difficult to open key box took over and hour, didn’t find hot water switch until the next day. We were locked out accidentally which was well responded to but we were then charged an absolute fortune to have the door opened by someone very local!! Would definitely stay again but in warmer months not for older people or young babies at this time of yr

Great location in a beautiful village 25m from a pub! It's small but more than adequate for a few days stay.
However the listing says there is free parking on premises. There isn't but there is parking close by for 40 minutes but you then need to park a 7/8 minute walk away up a steep hill. This is free in January and February though.

Nothing really for the host but we got hit with a £60 parking fine on our first night because we bought a ticket for the public car park and was fined because we were on the adjoining private one. In the dark and pouring rain the signs are not enough. We won't be returning to this place it made the whole trip a lot more expensive and left a sour note. A warning about this issue could be put in the cottage details. I'm sure we are not the first.

Traditional Cottage in a good location. Comfortable bed, warm and good shower.
The shower room tile grout is need of good clean. Damp in the shower room. Steep stairs.
They charge an extra £10 for looking after your £250 deposit (Shocking). Which is not mentioned on Booking.com or you have to pay £25 damage waiver. £6 or £10 for 24 hours parking.

Location is based next to the Cob & Lobster at the harbour. The 1 road/street is also close by, which offers the other places to drink or dine. It is a well maintained periodic house with all of todays facilities.
The staircase carpet, which runs into both bedrooms is rather rough to walk on bare footed. Also the shower part of the downstairs toilet needs re-grouting.

A compact and nicely renovated cottage, good shower in wet room, good kitchen diner, cosy sitting room, comfortable double bed. This cottage is situated behind Cod and Lobster in a shared passageway, you can park nearby for dropping off luggage. No parking nearby, car parks at top of village. We have been coming to Staithes for several years and love the village.

Quaint cottage.
Good refurbishment with quality fixtures and fittings
Quality equipment
Comfortable
Good quality bedding
The supply of coffee, tea etc
The supply of cleaning materials
The cottage felt a bit damp and needed airing
Couldn't get the heater in the double bedroom working
The alleyway leading to the cottage needed a good sweeping and there were 26 dustbins to contend with
We had no hot water to begin with
The bathroom tiles, although nicely done needed a good clean

Property clean, good amenities, excellent location.
The property was very good, but the experience with Host and Stay (the leasers) was terrible. Unlike every other property I have ever booked, from booking you are then subject to an email avalanche. The first tranche is an attempt to extract more money via a hefty damage deposit or waiver (which is not clear at booking). The payment system for this doesn’t work, and customer service is difficult to get hold of and, once you’ve got through, clearly an outsourced call centre. The deposit is mandatory so you don’t get any property details till you’ve paid. In my case I paid and was then told via one of their numerous emails that I hadn’t (so no check in / location info was provided). Cue numerous attempts to resolve the situation. Then there are numerous emails telling you to verify yourself. All in all, the whole booking experience was full of admin and very cumbersome - no other holiday rental I have ever experienced makes you go through this. I would never stay at a Host and Stay property again, which is a shame because the property itself was very good.

Tastefully renovated little cottage that was warm, comfortable and very accommodating for families, in particular the availability of board games for rainy days.
Availability of parking proximal to the cottage. There’s a public car park 10 minutes away, however is a pain when it’s pouring down rain and blowing a gale.

The cottage is in a perfect location to get around Staithes. We had a great time. As per other reviews, it is a cosy cottage, so would not recommend for four adults or families with older children unless you are planning to be out and about a lot. There are just three of us and our daughter is still little, so it was perfect. Finally, be aware the road down to the cottage is a narrow and parking is charged at £10 for 24 hours.

Nice cottage in an idylic spot. More attention to detail required for the cleaning. Biggest problem is the damage deposit required and the conditions attached. Had to put down a £250 damage deposit (fair enough) and pay a £10 admin fee!!! Baring in mind I had to personally log onto their site and then arrange payment from my bank it would seem that the admin fee is owed to me......
Biggest beef is that the host agency are not clear that the hold you deposit for 14 DAYS after your departure and then state it may take another 10 days for my bank to clear it. How on earth this is justifiable is beyond me.
Beware of hostandstay if you don't want them sitting on your deposit for weeks after you stay is over. Leaves a really bad taste.

Our second time in Staithes, we love how friendly everyone is, the great beach and others nearby, love the Cod and Lobster pub, little shops and cafes. A perfect village for a long weekend.
Gun Gutter House was incredibly small and we would not stay in this accommodation again, even though the location was 10/10.
It does technically sleep 4 people as advertised, but it’s not suitable for 4. The kitchen is perfect but I wouldn’t advise you stay here if you would all like to relax together in the living room of an evening - it is not big enough for this at all.
We arrived at around 6pm and the heating had not been put on for our arrival and so the house was ice cold - we could see our own breath it was so cold. Even after putting the heaters on it did not warm up for 24 hours meaning an incredibly uncomfortably cold first night for us, our children and dog.
We also could not light a fire to provide warmth until the second day as there was no kindling provided.

This cottage is in an amazing location. We even took our morning cuppa down to the sea front as it was a 30 second walk. It was lovely to be there before all the other tourists arrived, as it was so peaceful and relaxing.
The cottage is well equipped with everything you can think of in the kitchen cupboards! However for the price we paid we did expect a slightly higher standard of cottage. It was cute and unique, however a bit tired in areas and needed a refresh. It didn’t feel fresh. Perhaps a deep clean and paint in areas.
If you are wanting location this is your place!

The house was lovely and cozy and very clean. In a good position for the pub too. We had a problem of not being able to open the back door that was at the bottom of the stairs, which I reported, but just got an email saying hope it didn’t spoil our stay. I was quite anxious in case we needed to get out. I also thought was a bit expensive.

Great location, in Staithes amongst the narrow lanes and snickets and ginnels. Like a Doll's House and pefect for the two of us. Underfloor heating in the shower/wet room was a luxury and in a very sunny week, in the high 20s each day the house was comfortably cool. Kitchen was very well equipped - get yourself fit for the Le Creuset stewing pot! Nice little nespresso coffee machine and a cafetiere too.
Best settee was not aligned for the TV - a minor inconvenience - but for what TV we did watch, having Netflix/Prime options as well as basic Sky was good. Parking for unloading/loading was very tricky but the charm of Staithes is it's inaccessibility and we left the car in the top car park for £10/night and then didn't use it all week.

A really great property in many ways, good location, great facilities, comfortable bed. Great place to stay.
One big issue for us - we arrived and found the toilet seat completely unattached and unable to be sat on - as you can imagine, very difficult and we had to use a local pub for certain toilet needs…!! Whilst Host and Stay did send maintenance swiftly the next day (thank you, genuinely), we had a toilet we could not sit on for almost 50% of our stay. I have asked for a partial refund and am currently being offered £32 after paying £400 for the booking. I find this quite insulting, a fully useable toilet is crucial to hygiene needs. Host and Stay could have avoided this entirely by carrying out proper checks on the property before our arrival. First time I’ve had an issue with an Airbnb booking, so a bit disappointed.

Lovely cottage, good base for visiting other area's, there was everything we needed, right in the heart of the village. The property was very cool downstairs, which was great as the weather was so hot.
I felt the cleanliness could have been better, the oven was dirty/greasy and the tiles in the shower were mouldy in parts, it didn't spoil the holiday, but for the price, we expected better. Fans would be a good addition for the bedrooms,

We enjoyed our stay in Gun Gutter House. The house was clean, well equipped and comfortable. The location - less than a minute's walk to the Cod and Lobster - was great and the bed in the main bedroom was comfortable, if a little small.
The property does have two bedrooms but from a size perspective I think that with four people it would have felt cramped - it was just about right for the two of us.
We had a great time in Staithes - lovely pub, beautiful walking along the cliffs towards Runswick Bay. Thanks for having us....

This is a beautifully appointed cottage in the heart of the village, perfect for accessing all Staithes has to offer but tucked away up a quiet street so you aren't disturbed by many passers by. The cottage is well equipped -the kitchen especially and the table comfortably seats 4 so eating in is easy. Beds are really comfortable with fantastic high quality linen. It was really nice to have plenty of towels provided as well -even though we were only there for a couple of days.
The only down side is that while the living room is beautifully furnished it is small and as a family of 4 we weren't able to comfortably watch TV together -not a problem on a short stay but for a longer holiday there isn't much room. Probably not such an issue if your children are small though.
The hosts were really helpful and really quick to answer any questions.

The Stay staff were excellent throughout and kept in touch with us to make sure everything was fine. The extra cleaning made everyone feel safe and the little touches around the cottage helped make our short break even more enjoyable.

A beautiful cottage in a great location with comfortable modern facilities without losing its character.
The cottage was clean and presented beautifully. Perfect position close to the harbour and the fantastic Cod and Lobster

Gun Gutter House is a beautifully appointed cosy cottage. The space is very stylish, with a fantastic open fire, everything you could need in the kitchen and a large bathroom. The main bed is wonderfully comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. The location is literally a stone‘S throw from the very picturesque harbour and the local pub is at the end of the street. There are great little coffee shops in the village and lovely coastal walks straight from the front door. We had a couple of queries during our stay and communication with the host was very prompt, very helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely stay again.

This is everything you want from a cottage and more. It is in a tiny ally, that has a certain aroma at the entrance due to the bins of the pub but it is all good once you get to the front door of this authentic cottage. It is so near to the beach that when my wife wanted a coffee, I - yes, I! - could pop back and make her one with the ample supply of capsules provided. Bedding was super crisp and beds comfy. Loved our stay.

Great place. Slightly smaller than expected but cozy nonetheless. The bed was quite comfortable. Has all the amenities you need. Need to note that the road it is only accessible by foot.
