It was a great place would definitely go back, the kitchen was just filthy and there was no kitchen roll or fairy liquid or dish sponges to wash up we had to go buy them. However apart from this we really enjoyed our stay.

A little apprehensive after reading some negative comments in previous reviews but found there was absolutely no need for concern. Lounge area, kitchen, ovens, bathrooms, toilets, showers and all bedrooms were great. The building as a whole was very warm and comfortable. The lounge, dining area and kitchen being open and spacious was excellent for a family group who enjoyed being indoors together without being on top of each other. This was our fifth Christmas getaway together and ranks second only to another great airbnb we had in Staithes.

Good value, lovely big open kitchen dining space. However, not enough cleaning products provided eg hardly any washing up liquid and only 2 tea towels. Also lacking several kitchen equipment items eg whisks and enough oven dishes which made cooking / cleaning for a group of us challenging. Ended up having to provide lots of things ourselves which would have been helpful to know before the stay. Also very minimal toilet roll provided. Again would have been useful to know prior to stay

Overall a great place to stay, generally very clean a bit cobwebby and dusty in places but such as it is with old buildings. the photos are very accurate, it's very spacious. There was 11 of us all in 6 adults, 4 kids, a baby and 3 dogs, and there was ample space for all of us to sit around the table, and in the living area. Beds were clean and comfortable, free WiFi and for an old chapel surprisingly warm, the underfloor heating kept us very comfortable. We had an issue with the downstairs ensuite and the hosts were very quick to respond to our issue. well worth the money we've had a lovely few days exploring Whitby

We really enjoyed our stay — the house is beautiful, in a lovely area with easy access to Whitby and local transport. The photos reflect it perfectly, and the facilities were fantastic, especially the kitchen and living space. It felt calm and relaxing, with thoughtful premium touches like luxury hand wash and shower products. A few small things could improve the experience: one bedroom and shower room opened directly off the living area, so a clearer layout description would help future guests. Cleanliness was mostly good, though a little dusty with a few stray hairs. The capped heating made it slightly cool at times. The checkout experience was disappointing — someone waited outside from 9:45am and approached as soon as we left at 10:10am, which felt a bit uncomfortable given our minor delay with a baby. For the price (£850 for two nights), a little more warmth would have gone a long way. Also worth noting, parking is limited for larger groups.

The property sits in beautiful surroundings, in a really quiet area. Lots to do within a short drive but the surrounding lanes are narrow and not really walkable as a family. Would suggest driving down the hill to the beach (which is beautiful). The property feels really unloved and would benefit from some maintenance and attention - reported a number of issues whilst we stayed at the property but nothing was done to rectify these and I note a fair number of guests have reported similar issues. Considering the price of the property to rent I would have expected these fairly basic things to be addressed (toilet flush broken, toilet seats all loose). The property could also do with a deep clean.

This is a beautiful property and we really enjoyed our stay, it had everything we needed for our stay with kids and a disabled guest. However there were a few issues, dirty bathrooms, broken toilet seats, toilet continously flushing, rubbish in the courtyard, vases of dead flowers in the house. All of which have been fed back to host and stay, so hopefully this will be amended. I would highly recommend, if these issues are dealt with. Host and stay were very responsive and nice to deal with. Many thanks

Would recommend Dunsley Chapel for those wanting a place to stay that is peaceful with good outside space to enjoy, but close enough to Whitby. it was a lovely home with ample space and amenities. however it could do with a good deep clean in lost of areas for build up of dust and grime and the outdoor areas could benefit greatly from some pruning and weeding, we had several strings and cuts from over grown bits as the children explored and the seating area had a good bit of weed. Didn't ruin our stay at all but think it would make for an even better property if these areas were maintained more regularly.

The place was gorgeous and HUGE. We were surprised by the size of the place. Facilities were brilliant, we worried we wouldn’t have enough pots and pans, but that really wasn’t a worry and you could easily cook for about 20 people here. There are a few scruffs and scratches round the house but by no means does it change the top quality of the place. Only a 5/10 minute drive to Whitby which was extremely handy. We would 100% return and we hope to stay again same time next year and make it a yearly occurrence.

Beautiful place and a great location. Lots of space and a fab living area for us all to sit on an evening after a long walk into Whitby. It could have done with a deep clean, it was dusty in places and the bathrooms weren’t spotless. However, the beds and linen were clean and really comfortable.

We had a great stay and the team were super helpful and responsive. The place is outside of Whitby but close enough to be able to take a short drive and enjoy. We had a decent walk down to Sandsend with the dog straight from the accommodation. The place has a fab layout for a large family trip and meant we all had our privacy but also got to enjoy each others company during the weekend in the communal spaces. Hopefully we will be back!

Great house. We stayed as two families of 4 and our Pooches. Host responded quickly and was helpful and accommodating (allowed us to take our two pooches). The living/ kitchen space was great and loads of room for us all. Bedrooms all spacious and well presented. Plenty of toilet/bathroom facilities. Love the area anyway having been many times. Would definitely stay at the chapel again.

Similar to other reviews - lovely building and location, which was great for a party of 10 (including children) - but it is in need of a deep clean and maintenance. Examples of the required maintenance include the shower falling off the ensuite wall (flagged in previous reviews), the dishwasher dispenser not working (so all glasses etc were dirty when we arrived and needed handwashing straight away) and half the toaster being broken. The heating was also all over the place - and the house was freezing on arrival. The main room is a fabulous space that works really well - but it needs a deep clean (skirting boards, blinds, ceilings etc), as full of dust, cobwebs, dirt and spiders. There are also not enough plates, cutlery, mugs and glasses for a party of 10 and only 1x cheap toilet roll provided for each bathroom (no hand towels etc). Garden was enclosed and safe for children and dogs. If the place was thoroughly cleaned and maintained to a better standard - we would definitely go back

I would have to agree with some other comments, the location is stunning and it does have the wow factor at first. Sadly, when you look closer the property really would benefit from some maintenance… For example, the walls are marked/stained, cream carpet heavily stained, shower hanging off the wall in the en suite, mouldy windows in the downstairs twin room, mouldy window in the ensuite, dirty blinds, grimey shower screen, the chairs around dining table were all marked, oven was filthy, mattresses heavily stained, spiders and cobwebs everywhere. I have seen other comments similar but doesn’t seem this is being taken onboard despite it being said so, cleaning remains to be lacking…

The house is beautiful and in a really quiet location very close to Whitby. Really nice size and good room configuration for two families travelling together. Found it a little hard to work out where the front door was from the arrival instructions but access was easy. Only criticism would be that the carpets were dirty with visible bits on them in all areas. Not sure if they had forgotten to vacuum from previous guests but wasn’t a showstopper for us. Would stay again as really suited us for a weekend. Good communication from the host

The property was in a stunning location and looked like the photographs. This place has the potential to be epic for big families to enjoy some time together. The house unfortunately was unclean. It was clear no one had been in the property for sometime. The carpets were filthy, the oven was vile, there were dead flies, dog hair and dust all over the place. It’s such a shame because the house itself is stunning. The smoke detector was beeping constantly from the moment we arrived. We reported it straight away, however, it took them 4 days to come and sort it. The ceiling is quite high and there were no ladders otherwise we would’ve changed the batteries ourselves. We considered throwing things at it to stop the relentless beeping! Although it’s advertised as family friendly the high chair was broken so unusable and the hot water taps were close to boiling. We’ve emailed with a complaint but still no response. Fingers crossed they make the changes for the next guests.

I feel very sorry for the owners of what once was probably a very beautiful Chapel conversion. On arrival we had to fight through cobwebs to reach the front door to the property which was to be expected given its rural location but to find the same on the inside was horrifying. I spent the first day of our holiday dusting the rooms, removing cobwebs, cleaning the sofas, cleaning the floors and cleaning the sinks in all rooms. The door to the washing machine was hanging off and upon inspection the hinges had rotted, the doors on the cupboards were loose and the fridge was stained brown at the bottom. we payed significantly less than the usual price per night but even at the price we paid we expected more. Do not be fooled by the glossy pics the house is run down, marked walls & the broken furniture. Host & Stay have also withheld our security deposit for 14 days after we vacated the property "in case any issues arise" which essentially means we will pay for issues after we have left!

Great house for 10 of us with 5 kids. Easy walk down to Sandsend but big hill to climb up coming back. Dunsley is a very peaceful little village but about a mile from facilities in Sandsend but we know the area so worked well for us House was spacious and well equipped. Wifi was not the best so some moaning kids. TV reception was hindered by dish being blocked by shrubs

The former chapel school of Dunsley, Sands End, is definitely a special place and ideal for a family get together. The massive living area means you can all be in one place at the same time, great for minding the kids whilst doing all the other things. The individual bedrooms vary in size but all are well appointed, only the smallest twin bedroom being basic but perfectly ok. Outside, there is a good and safe garden at the front and at the back there is a patio with access onto another good grassy area. All good for kids to play. Dunsley is a very small farming hamlet so you need to go to Sands End for any amenities, just a few minutes by car and we had no trouble parking over the bank holiday. We know Sands End well and have stayed in other accommodation before. The communications with Host & Stay all worked well, we got checked in and out without any issues. So, would we go back to Dunsley chapel? Yes!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the setting is beautiful and very peaceful. The communal space is perfect for larger groups. We had no issues keeping warm, especially with the log burner going too! The heating system is simple to use and allows for fine tuning around the property. Our dog also had a great stay, enjoying a beautiful fenced off garden. We would have no hesitations staying again. Thanks again!

We had a lovely stay at Dunsley Chapel, will definitely be returning. Upon arrival there was electric heaters in most of the rooms and didn’t take long at all to heat up. Despite reading previous reviews saying it was cold, we found the temperature perfect and at times, with the log burner on, we were too warm! Beautiful home, lovely surroundings and great host.

The chapel itself is beautiful! Just as pictures show and really lovely area and grounds. However the chapel was very cold, I was expecting this due to reviews and we had brought wood. One bedroom was 8 degrees and we had to move mattress. It was still very cold next morning and no hot water - boiler broke. The maintenance team came out but couldn’t fix it and at 3pm we were told we had to relocate. This wasn’t an option as we were still in Whitby, and wouldn’t be as we were travelling for a 60th birthday celebration we had brought a fair amount of things we had unpacked, we had small children/baby with us and as it was a celebration we had been out for a celebratory lunch and would have been unable to drive. We did buy wood in Whitby and were able to manage but unable to shower/bath. I appreciate that the host did try to solve the issue and offer alternative accommodation. Overall it didn’t spoil our stay as we were only there 2 nights and had wood. If boiler working you will love!

Lovely accommodation, beautifully converted. Very clean and cosy and warm (despite being worried about previous reviews about it being cold - that was not a problem at all). Hosts were very communicative and instructions on how to find and access the property were very detailed. Had pretty much everything we needed for a long weekend, expect for a clothes airer which would have come in handy as we had a wet weekend and used the washing machine but then had nowhere to hang anything to dry. Kitchen was well equipped in terms of utensils, but we did need our own basics (oil, salt & pepper etc, foil etc). And just one big let-down - no wifi all weekend :(. We suspect it was a Sky issue rather than a router issue, but this was really disappointing. And with no phone signal or 3G/4G, also a bit concerning should we have needed to contact anyone (emergency services for example) urgently.

We’ve just got back from a weekend at The Chapel. The location is great, beautiful, easy to find and great parking. The problem we had was that when we arrived it was thick snow, very cold and unfortunately the host hadn’t put the heating on so it was 7 degrees inside, with 3 babies and 3 toddlers this wasn’t ideal. The kids teeth were chattering. It took 24 hours to get up to heat so the first night was very cold. The house itself is beautiful! Decorated really tastefully and there was everything we needed. A few dead flies found around the house but being next to a farm we put it down to that. We had a wonderful weekend away and would absolutely consider going back. We just wish the hearing had been put on for our arrival.

Lovely place for my Birthday with family. The house is a great space for spending time together. I had a memorable time, thanks to choosing this lovely house. We know Sandsend and Whitby well. Great seaside and countryside, We rate the property highly; it is beautifully designed and well equipped. A few points - very cold on arrival as a door had been left standing open from outside. No logs or fuel for stove at all. A point reviewed by many, but not rectified for new guests. The 2 bed room never heated to above 12 deg, despite leaving the heat on to warm to 19 deg. Icy in there. My Mum is 80 and disabled had to struggle with stairs to bunk bed….Suggest heater for this room. The room remained the same for whole stay and is stuck out - 3 exposed walls. It is January I know, but house should be useable. Finally, one of the guests cut hand on a glass with a chip out of it (already damaged) and we found a mini first aid kit but it was empty, but triangle bandage. Needs sort!

The chapel is a beautiful building. The location is really picturesque with views over the beautiful country side and the sea.When we arrived the heating had been put on and the house was lovely and warm.This house is a good size for a large group. I had all my children and grandchildren with me it was a special Christmas celebration. The walk into Sandsend was okay going down but really hard work coming back up the very steep hill. There is everything you could possibly need at the house. How ever we did bring some logs with us for the log burner because we like a cosy fire in the evening. The WiFi wasn’t great but you are out in the country and it didn’t cause use any real problems. All in all we had a fabulous stay.

This property hosts an excellent, central social space for large groups or families, with plenty of room for everybody to be there at the same time. The period features are beautiful and it’s quite something to be staying in a converted church. The beds and sheets were clean and comfortable. The property itself is fantastic, but there were a few things that bothered us: The property was cold on arrival, which is something we expected based on other reviews, so put the heating on as soon you arrive and bring wood for the fire. Most rooms and bathrooms had cobwebs and dust in places - a thorough clean is needed for sure. However the kitchen and other main surfaces were clean. One of the sofas has very unstable legs, which made us really cautious whenever we sat on it. It definitely needs repairing. There was only one dishwasher tablet upon arrival and the Wi-Fi is not good - it only works if you’re near the router, which is not ideal. It’s a great place, but needs some care!

Lovely little chapel and great that there are two ground floor bedrooms and bathrooms. We stayed with our parents in their 70’s who have accessibility issues so this is reflected in my review and not relevant to everyone. I would recommend picking up some logs on the way as the high chapel ceiling keeps it very cool. It was late teens low twenties when we stayed and with elderly parents it was too cold for them. Access is good but the path is a little slippy and there is a step out the front. The sofas are quite low and the high ceiling affect the sounds… our parents struggled hearing across the room as a result. This property is managed by a company and this is did mean not all of the information was available. They advised there should be fire wood in the shed but these were locked with no key. Although clean there are signs of age with stained carpets, worn fixture etc Overall it was lovely but a few specifics we found whilst there.

We stayed for 3 nights. There were 5 adults, 3 children and a dog. The photos of the chapel are accurate. The living space is beautiful and spacious. We had no issues with the heating but we stayed in the summer. There were a few cobwebs in the bathroom and main living space in high to reach areas but this was not an issue. The toilets and showers/sinks were very clean and so was the kitchen. I always wish I didn’t have to bring extra toilet rolls but this seems pretty standard now in most commercial holiday lets. There was enough for the first 2 days and I don’t think that is unusual. The utensils and crockery in the kitchen were great, and more than enough for the 80th birthday celebration lunch. There was washing up liq and a few DW tablets and the kitchen was lovely. The bedrooms were comfortable. The twin is small but fine for kids. We walked to Sandsend for fish&chips at fish cottage and drove to Falling Foss tea garden for scones and a nice walk. A lovely stay, would recommend.

We had a good stay overall. The chapel is beautiful and in a great quiet location with Sandsend walkable (steep on way back but walking on the road was fine as very few cars and they slowed) plus only a 10 minute drive to Whitby. We had a few issues like the internet not working and hot water ran out on the first day as linked to hive which needed internet so a bit frustrating but it got fixed ok. Dominoes delivered using what3words which was good and we picked up a takeaway from Whitby another night. Overall we had a lovely stay

Beautiful house and surrounding area. Walk to Sandsend was not doable as a very narrow steep one way road so dangerous especially with children so we drove but easy parking. House was immaculate and so spacious. Lots of amenities which really made a difference.

Wonderfully converted Chapel in a peaceful location and great for a family reunion. Was just the right size for our group with plenty of space in the living / dining area for everyone. The bedrooms were all a good size and very comfortable. It's only a short drive into Whitby and is located very close to the beach at Sandsend (however, the road to Sandsend is very narrow with lots of blind bends and not very safe for walking). Would definitely recommend Dunsley Chapel for this kind of family get together.

Wonderful stay at the Chapel - it's in such a lovely peaceful area and Whitby is just 10 mins away. The property is stunning, easy to access with the detailed key box instructions, enough utensils for the 9 of us. Perfect for multi-generational family get-togethers - we had people from 12 to 75 and it worked so well for us. Beautiful property and will be back again for sure.

Let’s start with positives: Beautifully restored Chapel,in a lovely location.Beds comfortable and it was clean,spacious and the owner provided additional pans and baking trays for our visit- we were eating in,catering for 10. This was a special occasion for us,so I communicated with Host&Stay beforehand,to make sure everything was in place, so we could just enjoy our celebration. BUT: The heating hadn’t been put on, as arranged,so it was cold on arrival and took 24hrs to warm up. The promised logs never materialised for the woodburner,despite regular reminders and assurance that they would be delivered. The main oven didn’t work- making catering for 10 a challenge. The 2nd day there was no hot water for showers.We returned from the beach, windswept and sandy and all had to go out for our 40th Anniversary meal unshowered. The showers were ridiculously difficult to turn on and off ( it was a team effort). We spoke to 10 different ppl at Host&Stay, all talk,no action.

The house was in a lovely rural setting, it was beautifully presented, clean and well equipped. Host and Stay were responsive to any queries. We would have preferred to have had a slightly later check out for New Year’s Day but unfortunately this could not be accommodated. It should also be noted that the twin and bunk bed rooms are much smaller than the double rooms but are ideal for children. We had a lovely few days staying at Dunsley Chapel.

This property is in a beautiful location but, if you are booking it in the winter, be forewarned that the underfloor heating takes at least 36 hours to come on. The house was VERY cold when we arrived and there was nothing provided for the wood burner. We spent a cold night until we could purchase supplies for a fire in the morning and were disappointed that this wasn't thought of by the property management. Also, the kitchen is not well equipped if you are catering for larger groups and you should bring your own basics (e.g., cooking oil). That aside, the rooms are well apportioned, the views are beautiful and the proximity to the sea is fantastic.

Dunsley Chapel was absolutely beautiful and in a perfect location to have a weekend catch up with friends. Close proximity to Sandsend beach and an easy drive into Whitby. Highly recommend!

This property was perfect for what we needed which was a place for 6 adults to chill for birthday celebrations for a couple of days. The open plan living room/kitchen makes a great entertaining area. The bedrooms were nice and comfortable. The only issue we had is that we couldn't get the heating to work, but we bought some logs and made a log fire.

A lovely place- everything you need is pretty much there. Very clean. Lots of space. A great place for a very large family or party of friends to chill. A beautiful holiday home. Price not too bad if several sharing the cost but very pricey if not.

Such a lovely house in a great setting! Plenty of room for a group of up to 10 people, gorgeous house throughout, beautiful grounds, and even a sea view. The gorgeous Sandsend beach is only a mile to the east. (But there's a 25% downhill towards the end, so if you fancy a walk, you'll have a steep hill to get back up!) (Tip for anyone getting here via Google Maps, which doesn't have a great idea where the house is: If you come up Dunsley Lane from the south, fork left directly opposite the Dunsley Hall entrance. Just before the left you need is a fork for Home Farm, but go past that and take the very next fork, then Dunsley Chapel is the first garden gate on the right, and the gravel parking bay is just a bit further along.)

Our second visit to Dunsley Chapel and it was as breath taking as before. There is plenty of space to accommodate a large family and they allow dogs. My mum uses a wheelchair/ mobility aid and apart from a small step at the entrance it was perfect for her with an en- suite bathroom to the downstairs bedroom. A little too far to walk but the beach is almost on the doorstep and is looking lovely this year. Communication with the Host is great. Before, during and after our stay.

Really lovely accommodation. Great for a family or friends get together. Had a lovely walk through the woods to Mulgrave castle, then down to Sandsend beach. Where we had a lovely pub lunch in the Hart Inn. Human and dog friendly. Would definitely stay again.

Fantastic property in a great location. Lots of lovely walks in the local area and close by to whitby! The house has been done up well, with a lovely garden also. I would say it wasn’t that clean when we arrived - the grill and oven were dirty, lots of cobwebs, carpets and windows not very clean. For £200 cleaning fee not sure that reflected on the property. For the wifi you have to provide all of your details, not ideal if you have to work from the property. They also request to fill out an extensive form to provide more personal information and request bank details and passport. I feel everything should be completed within the site of air bnb and not else where.

Dunsley chapel is a really nice place, it’s perfect for us as a group of 6 adults, a toddler and a dog. More than enough space, clean and tidy, you can see the field and sea from the window and also it has easy access to town, with 10min drive you can reach Whitby. Definitely recommend!

We really loved this property. The living area is spacious but cosy and homely, and there are enough bedrooms to suit a variety of family needs. We were all comfortable staying here and although we never go back to the same place twice, we would consider coming back here again.

Dunsley Chapel was the perfect place to stay for a few nights with adult family members and visit the nearby attractions. The place has been renovated beautifully and had everything we needed for our stay. Sian was always available for a query if needed and very quick to respond. Only point I would make is that it is not very easy to walk anywhere from the house, so a car would definitely be required for the trip. Would recommend staying at this place to anyone.

A wonderful property We were a family of 7 with grown up children We celebrated my birthday Lovely safe grounds for our dog 30 minute walk to Sandsend for beaches and restaurants We organised a Sainsbury delivery which went smoothly The hosts were brilliant and responded immediately Bedrooms and bathrooms superb One silly point. Only 1 T towel. Take your own! Take your own dish cloths. We bought some and left them there. All good and would strongly recommend

We had a fabulous week here in June. The chapel is a beautiful place to stay, very clean and spacious, we all had a great time. Very much enjoyed the bbq, fire and views. Central location to visit Sandsend, Whitby, Staithes, Scarborough, Saltburn etc. It’s a shame there aren’t more footpath walks from the property. Overall a great stay and would recommend

What a beautiful house!! We absolutely loved everything about the house, location, decor, comfort, it was just lovely. We particularly loved the open plan, sociable downstairs space which was perfect for the first time our family had been together for a long time! The location is beautiful, the tiny hamlet of Dunsley is perfectly rural and quiet, but a quick drive down the hill and you’re in Sandsend. There is even a sea view out of the front of the house. We can’t wait to come again. Thank you!

Great bedrooms and large communal space, plenty of bathrooms, great walks on the doorstep. I think I returned the kitchen cleaner than check in - but I am very fussy, this was my only negative!

Loved this place ! So so spacious and wonderfully decorated. The heated floor in the open plan living room / kitchen my personal favourite. The only downside is we had to leave ! Plan to return in the future. Many thanks Sian and team for the hospitality x

We had the most fantastic stay in this lovely house. Unfortunately reduced to 6 people due to COVID so worked out slightly more expensive but worth it. Has an absolute WOW factor the minute you enter. House was spacious (10 adults would easily be accommodated), clean and well equipped. Communication was great from the moment we booked. Only negative for us was that we got absolutely soaked on our first day and found there was very little ability to dry wet clothes. Underfloor heating so lack of radiators and no (obvious) 'dry only' cycle in washing machine. All hung up in the outer porch so still a bit damp the next day. On saying that would definitely stay here again.

We loved our stay here, the chapel was very impressive, decor was stunning in the kitchen/lounge area and 3 double bedrooms. Beds were very comfortable. It was very clean too with lots of cleaning products available to use. Nespresso coffee machine and coffee pods was a lovely touch too. We will be recommending this place and we can't wait to come back!
