The location was great. A quick walk to the sea front and an easy walk down into the main bay at Whitby.
The lining was fresh with plenty of towels. Full kitchen of utensils and pans/pots.

As much as the property was nicely decorated. It was a little tatty. The hardwood floors were dirty, could have done with a hoover and mop under the seats and around the table as you could see a covering of dust. And also the main rug had thick black hair that had not been hoovered. The screws in the toilet door handle were coming out. Surfaces were dusty and could have done with a polish. The pillows in the bedrooms could do with replacing as they were very thin.
Lack of instructions for the induction hob made hard work cooking - not everyone has induction hobs and I needed to google how to use them.
We also had issues sorting the parking ticket out and had to pay for a day (which isn’t a problem) but when you book somewhere because of the accessible parking you expect it to be sorted before you arrive.
The balcony was off limits due to ongoing building works which was not advertised at the time of booking - I understand we couldn’t use it, and the note on the door explaining why, but it was filthy. Could have been swept at least, but nothing.
For a place where you can’t enter until 4pm, it was annoying that the property was still dusty and unkept.
It fell short on some aspects of our stay which is such a shame.

Location was good, everything in walking distance.

We were so looking forward to staying here for the 4 nights that we had booked.
On arrival the apartment complex overall was very untended and needs a lot of work doing to it.
On entry to the building it smelt damp and not very clean at all.
I had to wash my hands as soon as I got in the apartment each time as the doors and stairwell felt grubby to touch.

On entering the apartment it looks nice, until we noticed that it hadn’t been cleaned, the bedroom side tables and the windowsills were dirty - we cleaned the main bedroom and had to hoover before we could put anything away !
The dining table had cup stain marks on it - I wasn’t prepared to clean this as we weren’t going to use it !
We had to clean the side tables in the lounge and also wipe all the kitchen surfaces and the cupboard doors, I even had to clean the kitchen sink and sink drainer, before I could use them.
The glasses in the cupboard had to be washed before we could drink out of them.
We are so glad that we took our own cups to drink a hot drink from.
We had to hoover the lounge kitchen and bathroom also before we could take our shoes off.
The shower was full of hair in a corner and had to clean the sink.
We were very very disappointed in the cleanliness of the apartment as we had been charged £40 for a professional clean before we arrived.
We were informed that the apartment had been cleaned and that this would be mentioned to said Cleaner !.
I clean houses as my profession and to be charged and told it would be clean was so disappointing.
We were advised that it was a self catering apartment, which we get and understood, but to have to clean up after the previous guest/s is not on.
We can’t express how much we were looking forward to staying here but to be let down by the cleanliness is a Big No No, and it spoilt our trip.
I have requested a refund from the owner for at least the £40 for the Professional Cleaning Service that we were charged for, but got no reply. Very unprofessional.

Excellent location. Cosy and comfortable apartment. Excellent price especially for goth weekend.

The scaffolding up around the balcony wasn’t ideal but there was a little note from the hosts apologising for the inconvenience. It didn’t put a dampener on the stay at all though.

The company ‘managing’ it. If this property is privately owned, I would seriously suggest that the owner use a different company to manage it. The attitude and incompetence of the staff I communicated with when trying to pay for the stay was very disappointing.
We were left with no other option than to book another property with a different company 1/2 hour before setting off on our holiday, adding stress to our relaxing mini break.

Place itself was ok, although there was no wood for log burner.

On arrival I found out there was no heating and hot water. There was 6 degrees Celcius in the flat. The boiler was broken. Contacted the phone number provided and was told we have to wait for maintenance team. We had to wait 5 hrs before their maintenance team (one person) arrived and confirmed the boiler is failed and they have no spare parts so could not be repaired any time soon.

We had 3yr old and 12yr old kids with us but nobody was bothered, no offer to bring electric heaters or at least wood for the burner, unbelievable lack of customer care. At 21:45 we left the property with the technician and headed back to Sheffield.

Asked for refund, was told they had to investigate 10 working days, then email said refund will be within 10 working days... nothing happened, no explanation. Had to contacted credit card company to get refund which the property owners are now challenging. Don't think I have to carry on, you get the picture.

The location. The accommodation was fantastic.

I suppose it means the rest of the building his being brought up to standard. Which can only be a good thing.

Apartment was lovely. it was clean, comfortable and quiet. Good location, very close to the beach and a short walk to Whitby. Welcome pack was great.

Building is a little dated and there were roof repairs going on. Although this didn't affect our stay directly, apart from restricting the view and use of balcony but I understand they were out of the control of the owners.

Balcony was out of action due to scaffolding and we were not advised {scaffold had been up for a few weeks}, We appreciate maintenance needs to done but we especially booked for the balcony with sea views .

The apartment was clean and modern as pictured

When you book a place called boutique balcony you expect a grand balcony with splendid sea views as advertised in the booking information, including pictures. What we got was a first impression when pulling up on a beautiful sunny day was a run down tired building with scaffolding around it ! Granted the apartment itself is modern and clean as advertised but the balcony and view was very disappointing with no prior notice or apology. The owner has taken the gamble on not letting people know to prevent cancellations prior to arrival. We booked the apartment purely based on the balcony and sea view pictures and certainly got neither ! Had this been a hotel I would be looking for re location, refund or compensation but after being put on hold when trying to complain the line cuts off ! 


The owner is aware of various complaints re the scaffolding and has chosen not to highlight this for obvious reasons.


We certainly wouldn't be re booking with them again for this deceit

Overall we had a good stay. The location is great for the beach. The apartment is on the 3rd floor and is a good climb up about 70 steps. The lift wasn’t working for the first few days and a resident of the building advised us not to use it.
The apartment was quite dusty when we arrived. The host offered a cleaning service that we declined, we just got on with it.
We managed to park right outside the building which was good.

The location was perfect

The apartment was titled (Balcony), but the building had scaffolding all over, which was misleading. We cancelled another apartment for this feature, so this should be mentioned on the website before any consumer gives the hard earned money over.

Apartment was in a nice location and the basics were fine.
However, once booked I received a message saying in order to get the check in details I needed to pay either 1. £25 damage waiver which was non-refundable or 2. £250 security deposit which was refundable minus a £10 admin fee.
There was a free car park outside the building, however, it was first in first served...so not a guaranteed carpark as implied on the listing.
The hamper provided on arrival was a nice touch HOWEVER I would have preferred washing powder/detergent and more than 1 roll of toilet paper to be provided instead. We were given 1 roll of toilet paper for 3 people for 3 days and upon asking the Host, we were that was all they provided and that we would need to go and buy more ourselves - in the previous 12 months of travel this is the first place I have stayed at that I was instructed to buy my own.
Table and surfaces needed to be wiped down on arrival before we could use them.

Dirty bedding, unmade beds, rubbish inc. dirty nappies left, wet towels on the floor - took hours to clean the property to a basic standard. Didn't sleep in the beds on the first night - had to go out & buy cleaning products to make the property habitable. Very poor communication from 'Host & Stay' - made no effort to resolve the issues. Shockingly bad!

Property good location for centre of Whitby.clean and had great amenities. Everything you need for a family of four. Building is very grand although tired but the apartment was well maintained and clean.

Unfortunately scaffolding around the whole building did mean we were unable to use the balcony.

The entrance to building and stairway give a bad impression before you get into flat. Scaffolding outside didn’t help either. Very expensive for 2 nights, would have expected more luxury. Did not like having to pay the damage insurance

Location was great, plenty of parking space and parking vouchers were provided by the host.

Communication with the host could be improved.

We were informed that there was scaffolding outside the building for roof repairs, which wouldn't affect the interior of the property. However, since the property is advertised with a sea view, we requested photos from inside to ensure the scaffolding wouldn't obstruct the view. Despite sending 6-7 emails and making a phone call, we never received a definitive response. Each reply simply stated that we would be contacted later, which never happened.

As a result of this lack of communication, we missed out on booking other properties as their prices increased, and we lost our cancellation rights. We decided to keep our reservation. Unfortunately, upon arrival, we found that the balcony was not accessible due to the scaffolding, and it was also very dirty. Additionally, the sea view from the balcony was completely blocked by the scaffolding.

This was quite disappointing, especially since the sea view was a major factor in our decision to book this property.

Location

Roofing contractors replaced the roof while we were there. It was dangerous. We could not use the balcony because slates were falling on it. The kitchen flooded when it rained after the builders removed the slates. It was very noisy.

Clean and very well appointed apartment with cool furniture and good facilities. Great location in a converted historic hotel. Interesting old lift! A short walk from the centre, but this made it quiet and with a clear view of the bay. Grateful for welcome hamper and parking permits.

Found the bed a tad uncomfortable, though that's probably just different to what we're used to. Otherwise nothing.

charged £250.00 plus £10.00 admin fee for any possible damages etc. had to pay 2 weeks before arrival and have to wait further 2 weeks for it to be refunded If I had known this at time of booking would not have booked this property.

The property was in a great location with good views of the sea and Whitby Abbey.
It was very clean and had everything needed, good shower, well stocked kitchen, dishwasher etc.
There was a bonus of a balcony with views of the sea and Abbey

The beds were very uncomfortable, the mattresses were literally just 6 inches thick foam. It felt as though you were lying straight on the wooden bed slats.

Beautiful very comfortable apartment. Well equipped and in an ideal location for exploring Whitby.

Unfortunately the lift wasn't working during our stay which isn't the fault of the owners. Also there was building work being done next door which was noisy at times. Again this wasn't the fault of the owners but it was annoying at times.

Beautiful apartment in perfect location with free parking. We got a lovely hamper with loads of goodies. It’s only 10 mins walk to the whale bones, not far into Whitby town. Pizza West is the must visit, great atmosphere, amazing foods with excellent service. You have to book a few weeks in advance to get in. The apartment was clean but look up 🕸️ especially while in the shower. The biggest 🕸️🕸️ I ever seen! It’s didn’t bother us. We booked this apartment last mins and it was worth what we paid with reduced price, I wouldn’t pay like to anymore but nowhere is cheap these days. It’s what worth what we paid for a lovely last mins mini break away. Location and apartment couldn’t be anymore perfect with easy parking. Not alot of place have parking in Whitby.

The location is fantastic and with beautiful views and is a 5-10 minute walk from the harbour. It felt like a home away from home and the welcome basket with goodies was a lovely surprise. We will definitely be back!

We liked everything but there are only a couple of very, VERY small improvements that could be made - one being how stiff the balcony door is to lock, unlock and open - we were worried the key was going to jam or get stuck. And the other being that there are no children’s clothes hangers in the children’s wardrobe, only adult ones that we couldn’t fit their clothes on. But that is it. We loved our stay!

The cleanliness of all the apartment. Had to ring up for a key code when arrived.Had to ask if the cleaners where coming back. Kettle scum marks on. Crumbs in cupboard where toaster supposed to be no toaster.fridge not wiped out properly. Wood burning stove had clean me on top. Dust and bottle under couch. Glasses in bathroom scum and looked like hadn't been done for a few visits. Chairs in kitchen both broke.Cleaned the floor ourselves. Would like some of the cleaning money back.

The location was very good, the apartment was clean and well provided with all you would need. The view was really lovely from the balcony.

Unfortunately, the lift had broken down the day before we arrived, so we had to climb the stairs to the third floor. One of us has a bad heart condition and I have a very sore hip, so it wasn't a good start to our break. We had to keep stopping to rest as we went up. I know the lift wasn't the flat owners responsibility.
We could only manage to open one window and there didn't seem to be a key to open others, so it was quite hot in the apartment. We opened the balcony door to let some air in.

We had a lovely stay at Boutique balcony. The apartment was as described and in a lovely location. The kitchen was well equipped so we had everything we needed. My children loved the bunk beds! The hosts were very responsive and any queries I had were resolved quickly. Thanks for a great base for a few days in beautiful Whitby.

This is my first bad review for Air BnB but it is warranted.
I was sent no check in code for the key box. The Metropole towers is part of an old hotel and not a boutique apartment as mentioned in the descriptions. There were several men smoking on the entrance steps when we arrived, me and two children who needed the toilet had to wait in reception whilst the code was found out then I had to call back when the 8 was an A instead. As this was over the phone that was an easy misunderstanding.
The beds were clean the rest of the apartment was not. The cutlery was marked with food and had been put away, the floors were dusty with hair and dust in the double bedroom, there were webs hanging from the ceiling above the bunk bed.
Skip outside the entrance, broken chairs in the kitchen that could easily have caused an injury to a 4 and 5 year old. The bathroom cabinet and glasses were disgusting and to be honest it just did not warrant the £458 accommodation and £25 non refundable dep fees.

Dont be put off by the communal areas when you first go in remember this was a very grand hotel back in its day.
Everything you need for your stay is in this apartment the beds ate clean and comfy
Very very soft pillows i like mine firmer so will take my own next time,

Great and speedy communication with the host. Easy to find, and plenty of parking (with provided permit), which can be difficult in Whitby. Access was straightforward, as per excellent instructions provided in advance. Apartment was brilliant, lift if needed. Great layout, plenty of room, lovely balcony with views over sea and Abbey. Lovely welcome basket, with some lovely extras we werent expecting. Excellent kitchen with everything we needed. Large living room, with comfy sofas and dining area. Two good sized bedrooms, nice quality bedding. Large shower, nice selection of toiletries. Heating worked well and easy to use. Very handy location, everything walkable in Whitby, apartment is about 5 minute walk from the Whalebones/Capt Cook statue. Stayed as a family with two children (13 &11) would definitely stay there again, the apartment is highly recommended. It felt like a real treat staying there.

Great apartment in a the Old Metropole Hotel. 10 minute walk along the prom into town, beautiful views out to sea from the apartment. Well equipped for a stay with kids and my children loved the bunk beds.
Thoroughly recommend eating at Pizza West restaurant which is just a few minutes walk away!

We had a great stay in the apartment for 2 nights and wish we had stayed longer. It is comfortable, done to a high spec, all the equipment you need, and quiet. Good location within a short walk to the attractions. would definitely recommend.

Great apartment in the perfect location. Fab views made even better by Whitby Abbey being illuminated in different colours every night. Simply stunning.
Everything you could need to cook with plenty of essentials like salt & pepper, olive oil, tea bags, coffee, sugar etc. As well as every utensil. Very handy having washer/dryer too. Lovely and warm, good storage, neat to lift so great to get bags in but you don't hear the lift from inside the apartment at all. Great apartment, great location, everything you could need or want.
Highly recommended.
