The property was well situated and spacious.

It could’ve been cleaner. Upon arrival we were forced to hoover, particularly the main sofa as there was popcorn between the seat cushions that had been spilt by a previous occupant and not cleaned up.

Also upon arrival we had not been provided with the correct code for the key safe and had to make a phone call to Host and Stay to obtain this. Not very professional but then I am not impressed with Host and Stay at all and will likely not stay with them again due to the experiences with this booking.

Our only negative comment would be that the key code or what we thought was the key code didn't work on the key box. This was however quickly sorted with a call to the letting agent, we would certainly book again to stay here in the future.

Bagdale Rise is a fantastic place, this is the 2nd time here.
The lounge is comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped, bathroom great, bedroom are adequate.
Location is fabulous.

It’s a little dark & it’s hard to see the numbers on the key pad because they are black too. Could do with a little light of some kind as even in the daylight we struggled.
Possibly another set of mugs in the kitchen would be great.
Also one toilet roll for 4 People for 3 days is a squeeze, a spare one would have been nice as a back …..

I booked via booking.com and had to pay in full rather than reserve. We paid an extra £60 cleaning bill at the time of booking. Then before we were due to go we received an email asking to confirm the waiver and either pay £25 no refundable deposit or £250 refundable deposit. This was not through booking.com website and came as a surprise to us. I was anxious about doing this because we had problems with people taking deposits and not returning the £200 deposit to us through airbnb and we got no support from them as it was arranged away from their platform so we were naturally anxious. We therefore paid the £25 as we would have lost our money for the booking. We felt that this deposit was unwarranted and should have been included at the time of booking. We had a few hiccups finding and getting into the property and you had to rely on a link to a website with the arrival details. We presumed the allocated parking space was where we got the key from. But it was not made clear and my husband couldn't park our car in the space provided and ended up scratching our car. In the end, we had to park it in a bay with a note in case anyone wanted us to move it. Luckily we didn't need to. The apartment was very clean and modern and the beds were comfortable. It was a great base to explore Whitby and the centre was walkable. It is just a shame about the waiver and that we couldn't get hold of anyone when we were struggling to get in to the property.

The property is in the perfect location, no more than a 2 minute walk from the town centre. Easy instructions for checking in & out, parking was a little tight but still a bonus. Comfortable, clean & spacious for a family of 3. Will definitely book this property again next time we're in Whitby.

The apartment was brilliant. Clean, comfy and had everything you'd need for a stay.

It felt homely - it didn't feel like an empty rental. It was like care and thought had gone into decor and furniture.

It's less than 5 mins from the train station, a couple of minutes to get into the town, and only about 5 minutes to the bridge to take you to the old town.

The unit was spacious and very well appointed and spotlessly clean. The washer/dryer (laundry) was a Godsend!!! We were so close to the centre of town, Railway station, supermarket and attractions. We walked everywhere!

Would have liked some laundry liquid for the washer dryer (even if only enough to do one load of laundry). Also as we were travelling (internationally) we only had access to our phone messages/txts and emails when we had access to wifi. The process of checking in was a bit awkward and stressful because of this.

Hardly any space in kitchen for basic food stuffs ,needs a bread bin too. It’s the only place we’ve stayed where there wasn’t a pair of scissors for cutting packets open etc.
Cleanliness was fair but not up to our usual standards I’m afraid, your cleaner needs to pay more attention to detail.main lights in lounge area were thick with dust on top,also the t v cabinet was dusty too. Bathroom mirror was foggy like it had been wiped but not polished off.
Sometimes it’s the little things that need more attention.
Contact with host and stay I felt was too corporate, I didn’t like their attitude and the way they dealt with things like the breakages deposit stages. I don’t have problems with other companies I’ve stayed with sometimes it’s the personal touch that matters .

The location was great and parking was the right size for our car. Good communication, easy access and the beds were very comfortable. This was our second visit to this property and we enjoyed our stay.

The cleaning was not as up to scratch as last time. The frying pan and teapot were both dirty so we had to clean before use and some bowls in the cupboard were chipped. Glad we brought our own toilet rolls as there was just one roll for 4 people for 4 days provided!

The officious nature of using Host & Stay. The emails always seemed very don't do this..pay this.
Nothing warm or friendly or personal.
Seemed to be very focused on damage payments (I understand that some people are not good renters) but surely not a place to start?
No way of recycling, we ended up bringing home empty bottles, plastic, etc!
There are no instructions for the use of the washer dryer (a link to this in info would have been helpful!)
You told us the code for the lock key box but not where it was! Not helpful when arriving in the pouring rain!

Only problem was the size of the parking space as we were in a large car so it wasn't easy to reverse into space but at least it was covered, so that it didn't get dirty from all the gulls!

Very basic facilities, we were there for the weekend, mirrors were smeared, dust on some things, toiletries were shampoo only. No kitchen roll, box hankies etc, not available. There were 3 teabags only, three sachets of milk and about an inch of washing up liquid in the bottle. Kettle still had old water in it, as well as just looking dirty as there was so much limescale on the bottom. Toaster looked unclean, crumbs around the top and was rusted on the top, I think for the price point maybe more basic items could be available in the two bedroom apartment. I also think the kitchen equipment needs updated. We left the apartment clean and tidy and disposed of rubbish in the bin store as requested, but again no rubbish bags available anywhere in the apartment for us to refill the kitchen bin.

Bagdale Rise is an excellent, comfortable apartment situated close to the Whitby harbour, with very much of Whitby being in close walking distance. The apartment is equipped with Wifi, a smart TV, dishwasher and all of the kitchen appliances and utensils you could need. The free parking space is very useful and is much appreciated. This was our third stay in the apartment and we will be back again.

The bed slats on one of the beds were a little wobbly and may need tightening or replacing.

The apartment was warm and welcoming, and exceptionally clean. The bed linen and towels were immaculately clean and there were plenty of pillows and towels provided. Amazing location.

The only thing I found difficult but I know this can't be helped, was the parking space. There was very little space to manoeuvre into the allocated parking space as the parking is directly below the apartments and directly opposite was the walls of the opposite houses. However, once parked we didn't need to use the car again as the location was close to everything.

After booking was informed we’d have to pay either £25 insurance or a very large deposit to which there would be a £10admin fee and we wouldn’t get the money back for 7days!!!! I don’t understand how an admin fee can be charged on a deposit or why this was not made clear when booking.

We also received several passive aggressive emails from Host & Stay who manage the property before and during our stay.

The upshot is that we will never ever book another property which is managed through them.

Coffee machine didn’t work (leaked) and the previous occupants burnt toast was still in the kitchen - not sure how well it have been cleaned

The initial trying to contact someone on the day I got there it took many missed calls before they answered. Couldn’t understand a word they said English very poor. Contact should be made a day earlier to prepare guests before a 5 hr journey. The apartment did require better cleaning. Light fittings in all rooms very dusty along with behind tv. Definitely more attention to detail required with cleaning.

Having stayed in this apartment before, we were expecting the same high standard of cleaning. Sadly, this wasn't the case. The fronts of the kitchen units were covered in finger marks. The insides of the cupboards needed a clean. The silver teapot was covered in streaky marks. The washing machine had soap powder along the tray from previous guests. The bathroom mirror wasn't clean & the overflow on the bathroom sink had black mould on it. The insides of the wardrobes were dusty.

Beautiful property and excellent location.

Our score for the property would be 10/10 exceptional. Sadly, this was impacted by the management company 'Host and Stay'. We have stayed in many properties in and around Whitby over the years and have loved meeting the various owners and hosts. However, Host and Stay really need to consider their customers at the heart of their bookings. We paid in full for the property via Booking.com at the time of booking.
After booking, we were told that we must pay £250 damage cover on our credit card 2 weeks before our visit, which would then be returned 2 weeks after our visit but with a £10 admin fee deducted. Alternatively, we could pay a non-refundable £25 damage fee. We were bombarded with emails straight after our booking, insisting we made the damage payments immediately or our booking would be cancelled. We paid the fee and accepted that this was their approach.
The weekend arrived and their check-in details etc were very good and straightforward. We could have checked in from 4 pm on Friday afternoon but didn't arrive until 7 pm, due to work and traffic. However, we looked forward to the weekend ahead to celebrate my husband's birthday. We were somewhat surprised to receive a message at 10.03 am on Saturday morning reminding us that our check out was the next day and we MUST vacate by 10 am. We had only just arrived!
To ensure that we were ready for our early check out on Sunday, we packed everything up on Saturday evening before we went to bed and set our alarm for 8.30 am. Imagine our further surprise that we received a message at 8 am on Sunday telling us to make sure that we vacated the property by 10 am and no later or we would be charged. We were unimpressed to say the least. We had a wonderful stay but the level of interruption for just 2 days was beyond acceptable. On return home we looked into reviews of Host and Stay and it seems that their approach is not a one-off. Check out Trust Pilot if you want to hear of similar approaches.

Location was fantastic. Ideal for exploring Whitby. The flat is well appointed and comfortable.

The flat was great. The only two very small areas that could be improved upon are having some hooks on back of doors to hang damp towels. There is literally nowhere to put them to dry unless you use the dryer which doesn’t seem energy efficient! The other even smaller issue was there wasn’t a tea towel so we were unable to dry dishes to put them away.

The location was unbeatable. Right on the doorstep (literally 2 minutes away) from the town and harbour. Also a dedicated parking spot negated all paid parking or scratchcard parking schemes. The accommodation has everything you need from a weekend stay to a longer stay. Cooking facilities top notch and was also left a fresh pint of milk for a brew when we arrived. I was a little dubious after reading various reports about how hard the accommodation was to find and the tight parking, but we had no issues finding it, locating the keys or parking. Just read the pre-arrival instruction emails and it's a doddle! Would definitely recommend to friends and family and we will also return in the future.

There were no negatives i can think of regarding the accommodation. If I was to be a little picky, then a shower cubicle with power shower would've been my preferred choice over a shower in bath combination

Bagdale Rise is a spacious and comfortable apartment situated very close to the Whitby harbour, with very much of Whitby being in close walking distance. The apartment is equipped with Wifi, a smart TV and all of the kitchen appliances and utensils you could need. The designed parking spot was much appreciated during our stay. Host & Stay made sure to remind us that they were available for any queries throughout the stay which was a nice touch and was appreciated.

I found the mattress on the bed to be a little too firm.
We stumbled upon some dirt in the seatee which was unfortunate but this did not ruin our stay.

Fabulous location. Lovely apartment that exceeded expectations. Well equipped with everything you need. Comfy beds. Car parking space a bonus.

Requirement to clean surfaces prior to departure. Surely they're going to be cleaned anyway. Seemed a little OTT.

Great apartment, spacious enough for the family of 4. Very comfortable with everything you may need. Clean. On the first floor with parking space, what seems to be a luxury in Whitby. Very close to the harbour, walking distance to most of the places.

If I was going to be very, very picky
- parking space was very tight and I had to move neighbours’ bins every time we had to use the car (but we do have a big car)
- only one toilet roll, no spare
- no paper towels
- information of Nespresso machine in the flat would be greatly appreciated as we do drink Nespresso coffee at home, therefore we would have brought coffee capsules

Beautifully clean, superb location, well equipped.

Soundbar wasn't working, nor were the lights in the stairwell which made it really difficult to unlock door in dark! Also, it wasn't clear where the recycling bin was for the apartment....? Minor things, but bit annoying

Location great parking even better especially under the apartment decent size room for sitting in kitchen worked well too overall a really nice apartment

Would have loved a walk in shower that would have been great but we managed with what we had extra loo roll and tea towels would have come in handy too also a pizza cutter could not find one. Bedroom could have done with more space too walk round the bed better pillows needed but that's just my opinion.

Spacious, well equipped apartment just a 5 minute walk from the centre. Had a great stay and a great night’s sleep.

Parking space was tight but as everything was walking distance we didn’t need to move the car once in (and was a bonus to have).

There was nothing not to like. Modern, well equipped, dead comfy bed & perfect location. Allocated parking bay a big plus. We booked this the day before we travelled & Whitby turned out to be a great place to stay for a Christmas break.

Perfect location close to the centre of Whitby. Shops, bars and restaurants all within a short walk of the property. The apartment has all you need for a home from home break.
