A good sized property in a quiet location ideally placed for access in Barnard castle.
It was well equipped in the kitchen with everything that we required and had plenty of furniture in the lounge area. The bedrooms were a good size with both being ensuite.
Being very cold overnight the heating system was easy to control to keep a comfortable temperature.

The shower in the ensuite was a bit temperamental with the water temperature being on the cold side even when the control was turned to maximum hot.
The television was a good size but had no live TV channels to watch news or current programmes.

We booked last minute and the communication was great.
We found the property after a little confusion but managed. The parking is a struggle ( a car was already parked and only enough space for one car) so recommend parking on the street as the drive very narrow and can’t turn around. There was no charge. We parked near pharmacy / cafe.
Barnard castle was a lovely place to walk and plenty of shops and bars. Although if you want good food the higher quality bars and restaurants they don’t allow dogs, but the pubs do. Some served food too but just pub grub.
Dales place has everything you need to cook. With Morrisons just minutes walk away it’s perfect.
The apartment was warm and cosy even on one of the coldest weekends. We had a lot of snow which looked picturesque. Great stay.

Chose this property because it had off street parking. However it wasn't mentioned that it was a very narrow alley, made narrower because of scaffolding either side.

Location. Being a few metres from the town.
It has been decorated in a modern, trendy way, though there are areas where form comes before function. O first glance looks great but needs some tidying up, lots of scuffs and knocks, we found some just wiped off, others like the fat splashes around the hob have soaked into the paint.( Wrong paint used)

The outside parking alleyway had a lot of weeds. On arrival we we found grubby crockery and glasses that needed washing before use. Having paid a cleaning fee this was annoying. Generally grubby. There was no broom or dust pan and brush and the vacuum cleaner was hopeless even after we cleaned the filter. We take a pet with us and like to keep our accommodation clean and tidy and like to leave it so. No cleaning materials were provided.
Water pressure was low.
Storage was minimal.

The property needs a really deep clean and a bit of TLC.
Blinds on the velux windows in the bedrooms don’t close.
Dishwasher wasn’t working.
Blind was broken in one of the bedrooms. Reported to the host who said they would get it sorted asap.
One of the en suite bathrooms has had a leak at some point and the flooring is all blown and spongy.

Tuve un problema de no saber cómo cerrar la puerta con llave y tuve que llamar varias veces para que me dieran solución (que era un truco muy fácil que quizás haya que explicar )
Hay dos cosas que me gustaron menos: 1) no hay flexibilidad para entrar un poco antes de las 16:00 ni siquiera para dejar las maletas.
2) te obligan a pagar un seguro o dejar en depósito una cantidad alta, me parece correcto pero es bueno que se indicara en la descripción de la casa para que lo tengas en cuenta en tu decisión

Central location in village. Recently decorated in bright clean apartment.

Host and Stay appear to be letting agents used by the owners to rent out the apartment. After completing the booking on booking.com they inform you that there is an additional charge of £25 or a deposit of £250 (plus a £15 admin charge) for security. As we were only staying for 2 days this was an increase of approx 10% (this was not mentioned anywhere on Booking.com). When questioned on this Host and Stay gave some very well put together replies but maintained that if the deposit wasnt paid we wouldnt get the keys. As we were due to travel within a couple of days we had no choice but to pay up. This left a very bad taste in my mouth.
The apartment is in what I would term as an alley. Nice and clean and not a problem except for the parking. Very limited in the "alley" but once we had unloaded luggage, parking on the main road just outside was not a problem. We parked there easily for the full weekend.

It was spacious. Tv had Netflix and firestick. Everything needed in the kitchen. Dishwasher. Wi-Fi. Good cafe at the front of the lane. Good location.

Bedroom on the lefts bathroom hadn’t been cleaned, toilet definitely hadn’t been cleaned and used shower gel had been left in the shower. Blind in that room was broken and didn’t open.
Both showers don’t heat up. Have to use the little shower head and wait about 10 min for it to be warm. Bedroom on the right had a black beanie and gloves under the bed and dust balls, clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. Window in that room doesn’t open either. No toilets downstairs which is abit of a pain as that is not described in the description of the property.

I didn’t like that we were forced to pay £25 for damages which was non refundable. I thought we’d paid enough. Also photo was taken at an angle which made it look
Like a country lane. Walls could have done with a coat of paint. Bathroom floor had had water damage. It felt odd would have liked a mat over it.

A very lovely and comfortable place to stay. Clean and modern and nice and private. Unfortunately we were in the area for a funeral so never got to explore the area, however it is just a minutes walk to the main high street with shops, cafe's and pubs. Very convenient. Having been to Barnard Castle many times I know this place would be ideal to use as a base to explore the local area which there is plenty to do and see.

Great location, comfortable and quiet. Very comfy beds, lovely bathrooms and all the home from home items you needed. Great service from Host & Stay. Very easy to book and pay for.

Not a lot to dislike apart from the kitchen could have been a little cleaner. If there had been a bottle of spray cleaner, it would have been handy.

Spacious, well equipped kitchen

Some dusty corners and cobwebs around.. hasn't been cleaned thoroughly. Size of bed is a bit small.
Boiler didn't work on our last day causing us to unable to shower until we had to speak to someone from H&S. Having to pay for UNREFUNDABLE damage waiver was a big minus for the property. Maybe if they had less unnecessary ornaments around the house then they wouldn't have to ask for damage waiver fee.

The house is clean and comfortable. it's perfect for a few days. the lack of storage in the kitchen however (every cupboard is taken up with crockery/pans etc) means that it really isn't suitable for more than a brief getaway as there is absolutely nowhere(apart from the decent sized fridge) to put food out of sight.
Unfortunately, due to a boiler problem which I am sure has now been resolved, we did not have hot water throughout our stay and this was reported to the host. There was good communication however and they did try to resolve this problem asap. Sadly it wasn't resolved before we had to check out but it does look as though we are getting a refund so I think the way it was dealt with was very effective and I am satisfied with that.

Clean with everything it states to have. Free Wi-Fi is always a plus. Rooms were nice with good furniture but they were a lot smaller than it looks on the page.

Property wasn’t easy to find, but once you did it was great. The ‘parking’ is definitely not easy to locate and is very tight, small cars only.
Whilst the property was clean, there were plenty of unfinished or broken parts. The flooring in the bathroom by the shower was coming away and the lock to the bathroom simply fell out of the door.

The location of the property was perfect, with the property located down a quiet side street but under 5 minutes from the main high street to access all amenities and see the sights. The lockbox was simple and easy to use and the property had been set up ready for our arrival. The home was lovely with comfort and ease of guests really well thought through and the online guide included everything we needed to have a great stay including local spots to see, or dine at. In all, we had a really brilliant and comfortable stay. Thank you.

There is limited storage at the property, which wouldn't be a problem for guests staying for long weekends or short breaks, and rails and hangers are included still.

They kept me waiting for more than 40 mins to get the check in instructions. On a Friday evening which should be pieak time for them.

They also charge you a mandatory fee regardless whether you want or not insurance from them. If you dont get insurance they charge you a deposit habdling fee anyway. The deposit is 250gbp which i thonk doesnr show anywhere

The heater on the house was on a timer so switched off every 2-3h. Outside was 0 degrees and the house at 1 point below 15 degrees.. I called the management company arpund 5 times during the weekend and they totally ignored me. They did actually nothing and we had a bad experience there

Imposible de contactar al anfitrión. Tuve que llamar muchas veces. Nunca me enviaron la información para poder ingresar a la casa. Tuve que esperar horas afuera intentando que contestaran el teléfono, hasta que lo logré.
Muy mala iluminación, debido a que las cortinas roller estaban malas y no funcionaban (ninguna). Tuve que subir arriba de sillas altas cada día para subirlas a mano y así lograr tener algo de luz.
Se dijo que tenía estacionamiento, y éste estaba ocupado todo el tiempo. Tuve que buscar afuera.
Muy mala experiencia. No lo recomiendo.

We enjoyed our stay at this property. It is in an ideal position near the centre of the town but tucked away so it is very quiet. It was warm, clean and tidy. Having two ensuite bedrooms was ideal for our party - 2 couples. There is room for 2 cars (with a bit of toing and froing!).

The light bulb in the kitchen was flashing constantly so you could put the light on. DVD player not connected and didnt reach the plug socket without unplugging everything and moving them around. No batteries in the DVD remote control so had to swap the TV remote batteries back and forwards to use DVD and TV. Received 4 emails gently reminding us to leave by 10am. 4 emails is NOT a gentle reminder but constant badgering. having to pay and extra £25 or pay £250 which you get back within 28days is and unpleasant addition not exactly highlighted when you book.Loved the accommodation just not impressed with host and stay as they're not maintaining their accommodation and badgering customers.

Clean & tidy, in a side passage off a busy through road but convenient for access to shops & restaurants. Able to park car outside.

Entrance passage dirty, overgrown and littered.
Rooms dark with poor natural lighting. Some lights needed replacing & one flickered constantly.

The location was great, very peaceful and centrally located.
The house was comfortable and clean, with ample sofa rooms.

The bedrooms have skylights with no blinds, which make summer sleeping difficult. They really should install black out blinds, as the main windows give ample light. Also, the upper windows had spider's webs - they should be cleaned away. The kitchen had no cupboard space for food, and not having a washing machine could be an issue for families staying more than a few nights.

The property was fairly well located and close to the High Street and Morrison’s

initially there was a lot of confusion about the damage waiver being paid or not. I had paid it and I had even submitted the payment receipt to host in stay but when I called them one hour before my arrival, they said I don’t have access to the property because I haven’t paid the damage waiver. Complete miscommunication and breaking down of communication at their end. This caused me a lot of stress.

The second problem with the property was that if you have a big car like I do you cannot take the car in to where the main door is which means you have to carry luggage and other things like Morrisons shopping all the way in which is quite a distance and not conducive specially if you have elderly parents with you, which I did.
Third issue I thought was very important and relevant, that there is no toilet on the main level . Both our ensuite, so if you are chilling in the living room and you have, especially older guests like I did they have to go up to the ensuite in order to use facilities. This is not mentioned in the description and if it was I would have never chosen this property.

There was a spotlight flickering in the kitchen on top of the fridge area and it was not a very pleasant feeling.
They have a window in the roof and dad does not have any kind of blind so when you are sleeping and it’s sunrise at 4:30 am I was advised that you take a sleeping mask or you will be wide-awake. also a basic thing like a fairy liquid and a sponge was not available for us to wash dishes. There were literally two drops of fairy liquid.

Very disappointed having to pay insurance for cleaning/breakages after we had already paid in full (non refundable) for accommodation. We were advised we would not get key til it was paid!!! This was like the hidden extras on a flight. Price u pay should be final.price. just put it in the list price, not as an extra. I've never paid this before and I've used booking.com for years.

Great location, nice and roomy, everything you need for a stay, plenty of clean towels, even had tea and coffee on arrival,

Parking is off road but very tight, just make sure you pick the correct bay, as shop owners on main street are not impressed if you park, not in the allocated space..

Need better and more detailed instructions on how to find the place. SatNav took us somewhere different. We parked in Morrisons carpark and walked to find it. There was ample parking for 2 cars. Struggled a bit to turn on heating on arrival as was looking for a wall thermostat, but it was a remote one on kitchen windowsill, but managed eventually - precise instructions needed.
Lovely place. Had everything we needed. Comfy beds and pillows. Well equipped kitchen and cosy lounge. Metal chairs at dining table pretty uncomfortable, would benefit from cushions. Interior design was faultless. Would definitely return.

Excellent location with separate rooms, this property is great for family travel of for parties that would like some privacy.

The only downside is that the water for the showers is cold after one person showers.

The location as excellent - we walked into the town for some lunch. The snow made travelling difficult and our car was stuck at the property in the snow on friday.

The shower in our room was luke warm. we tried many different settings but couldn't get a hot shower. There was veery little space in the rooms. We have wedding clothes and other clothes with little space.

The house was great, just as described, clean and tidy.

The only slight disappointment was the lack of the personal touch we’ve had previously with Airbnb properties. This is the first one, whether in the UK or abroad that didn’t provide any kind of welcome pack for arrival (eg milk in the fridge, small loaf of bread, etc).

Not to sound picky, but half a roll of toilet paper in each bathroom was a bit stingy as well😂.

Possibly a sign of this one been run by a managing agent rather than the host / owner? Which may also explain the number of reminders we received to make sure we vacated the property by 10am! I assume they’re automated, but god they were annoying - 4 reminders to tell us to get out!

Never had to buy a £25 insurance policy to cover for any breakages previously either.

Overall a great house, in a great location, but let down by the lack of personal touches. Perhaps you lose something of the Airbnb ethos when you start using agents.

living area is poorly furnished for actual use. looks good but not at all comfortable. showers in both bedrooms are freezing, too far away from the boiler with not enough bar pressure to feed to rainfall shower heads. top tip - use the smaller shower head, at least that lets the hot water through.

Overall an OK stay.

Smaller than the photos lead you to believe. Only toilets are the en-suites (this is listed in the description)

Both bedrooms have skylights high up in the ceiling so there is no way of making the bedrooms very dark at night.

There is only one parking space and it is very tight to get in and out of and this involves communicating with the guests in the airbNb next door to move cars etc. Thankfully those guests were very helpful. It was easier to park out on the public street but the house is a couple of hundred yards up a narrow alleyway which means lots of trips to and from the car.
I received a phone call from Host&Stay a few days before my trip saying I had to verify my identity and provide card details in case of any damage or buy cover for damage. I opted to buy cover which cost £25 and is not refunded. None of which I’ve ever had to do with airbNb before.
Overall an ok stay, but being a chain property rather than a personal host lets it down.

The property is, bright, clean and modern with all the amenities you will need. Beds very comfortable and en suite very good.
Within easy reach if numerous bars restaurants and lovely walk to the castle river area.
Definitely recommend this place, its a bargain.

Holiday accommodation was clean, modern and well equipped, parking as detailed was a little tight even for one car but manageable. Location is right in the heart of Barnard Castle so everything is in easy reach.
Sadly the owners are let down by the property management company (not Vrbo) who after confirming the booking ask you to complete a ID verification check with thier partner superhog, who force you to either take out thier deposit waiver insurance or pay a deposit which they then take a fee for doing - I'm still awaiting the return of this deposit, apparently it takes 14 days (Really). Also the agent were not so subtle in reminding you of your departure time and additional charges that would be charged if you should be late leaving (I understand this but there are better and more friendly ways of communicating this)

great location and facilities

the TV had been moved and a portable ariel put on there, which we were unable to get any TV channels from.
the upstairs passage window must have been left open prior to arriving as the windowsill was full of water, the window had been shut prior to arrival but the water not cleaned up.
the right-hand bedroom ensuite has previously had a leak as you could see that the flooring had been taken up previously, but the room still smelt damp, and this is starting to show downstairs in the living room ceiling. did not affect us but needs looked at.

I felt a bit vulnerable sitting in the living room at night alone as there were no blinds curtains across the front door area so anyone could see straight in- a door curtain would be more secure and ensure privacy Also parking was challenging with unfriendly neighbour pointing out “her parking space”!!!

The town centre location was ideal for visiting the Bowes Museum and Barnard Castle, both just a few minutes walk away. The apartment is modern, well equipped and comfortable. In addition, both double bedrooms are en-suite. Four person occupancy would make the accommodation better value for money.

Not being able to meet the hosts. Too much administration - so many emails, messages etc. Having to verify our identity (I can understand why this is aked for, but it was a trial) by sending our passport details and a selfie photo. Having to video the property on arrival.

Very clean and well presented accommodation, great location for staying in Barnard Castle. Finding the property was a little tricky but my best advice is to drive up the covered ally between Galgate News and Castle Classics.
The parking is a huge bonus, we had a great week (take tea towels) everything else is provided.

The Bedrooms were tiny, and there were large velux roof windows in the bedrooms with no curtain (and located on ceiling which is approx 12ft high) so no way of blocking out light at night to allow a decent night's sleep in early July when it's only dark for about 5 hours per night. Large amount of black mould in one of the bathrooms, toilet had obviously been leaking for some time so floorboards were squelchy and the smell of mould permeated the entire upstairs of the building. Lots of loose fittings (kitchen tap, toilet roll holders and coat rack in living area, which fell completely off the wall after I gently removed my v light rain mac from it!).Overall, while the decor was trendy and modern and the place looks v plush on first inspection, there was general attention to detail lacking and the Host and Stay staff offered no help when I brought some of our concerns to them on the first day of our 5 night stay, so I just couldn't recommend either this property or Host & Stay as a company

Despite the guide in the property stating that TV Freeview was available in 2 easy steps - after several hours trying and a phone call to Host and Stay - TV was not available only NETFLIX - I presume so that the owner did not pay a license fee. Very poor and a huge waste of time, the info was completely incorrect.
The kitchen sink drained directly onto the driveway as the outside drain we think is blocked - so smelly water all over the drive every time the sink was used. The overflow on the kitchen sick is not even connected.
The outside windows are filthy and the outside space has litter all over the place
Cobwebs in the hall with dead spiders in several areas
Dust and fluff on the bedroom floors
Outside of kitchen cabinets were smeared and sticky - clearly not cleaned
Dust and fluff behind the TV
A neighboring business owner blocked our cars in the drive several times and was difficult about allowing us to move cars out of the drive
En suite sink was loose
Shower upstairs would not drain easily
Kitchen tap very loose and wobbling

Really comfortable, modern and clean. Great access to the town.

A few minor maintenance issues… tap in kitchen not secure and some repair needed following an earlier flood in one of the shower rooms. Outside needs sweeping to remove old cigarette ends.

Good location on edge of town centre, so quiet at night, especially in its cul-de-sac location. Kitchen looked well-equipped, but was wasted on me, as I was using it as a place to sleep in order to attend functions in the town and visit friends, so ate out for all meals. TV is Firestick equipped, so able to log onto my own account and watch my Netflix/Amazon Video, as well as use apps like iPlayer, All4, ITV Hub, etc. Both bedrooms are ensuite shower-rooms with sink & toilet and water pressure was good in shower. The hot water temperature was also good. Bed was comfortable, bedside lockers have storage cupboards in them and there are electric sockets both sides.

Somewhat lacking in storage space in bedrooms - e.g. no wardrobe, but a chrome coat stand for hanging things on hangers and what I presume was a trouser stand for hanging two pairs of folded trousers (never seen something like it before).
Dressing table is only a free-standing "bench" three feet wide by six inches deep, due to space constraints, and has no drawers, so doesn't accommodate much clutter.
Hand basin in ensuite is about the size of a wok and, typical of a bowl shape, it takes little to get water sloshing all over the place. I have a dislike of square toilet seats, but that's me, and the design of the seat attachment to the toilet is, as with many modern designs, prone to torque resulting in the seat twisting and not sitting centrally on the porcelain base. The only place to store stuff in the ensuite is around the hand basin (which gets wet) or on the window sill behind the toilet.
Car access up the narrow mews is difficult with anything but the smallest car, and requires reversing out. More difficult again if the next door property is also occupied. Street parking in town can be difficult to find: I was lucky to find a spot immediately outside - my neighbours also parked elsewhere, but I don't know where.
The external environment was, however, a mess - higgledy-piggledy waste/recycling bins, some with lids open and full to the brim, litter (and probably overflow from the bins) strewn all over the mews area outside the property. Not a great welcoming sight.

A really nice, cosy, comfortable home, centrally located and ideally placed to enable us to easily walk to the shops, restaurants and historic sites of Barnard Castle. Parking was available on site and there was free parking on the nearby streets making it easy to explore the local area beyond the town itself. The information our host provided prior to, and during, our stay was really useful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will look to stay here again whenever we return to the town.

A hidden gem. Close to the main street, but tucked away down a driveway, so very quiet. Parking space next to the property. Comfortably and stylishly furnished with a well equipped kitchen. Barnard Castle itself is historic, quaint, characterful, very friendly. We found some beautiful walks by the river, and enjoyed the local shops and market. We were visiting with our dog, who was very comfortable too and was made a fuss of by the locals every time we went out. Cafe round the corner recommended for full English breakfast. We hope to return!

No toilet paper, washing up liquid, bin liners, salt, pepper etc provided. Very limited range of kitchen utensils. Bins outside overflowing. Random door in the kitchen leading into an external garage which wouldn’t lock. Tap fixture not properly fitted. Very overpriced - would not recommend.

Excellent location,very quiet,lovely property but severe maintenance problems..central heating did not work on arrival,then broke down again overnight....garage where boiler was situated was crammed with bags of rubbish including food waste...Outside where I parked had builders rubbish including broken wood and pallets leaning on property....wife wanted to use oven dish to cook in the morning but had dead spider in it....it had been there a while...

Working heating,rubbish cleaned up and generally checking over before guests arrive...company in charge should make sure all is ok on a regular basis...
