This is a great base in a lovely little village to explore North Norfolk. Parts of the cottage are a bit home-made and quirky (my kids loved the bunk beds, but I appreciate others might not), but it has everything we needed for a great four night stay. The garden is an amazing spot - hopefully the hedge can be fixed very soon (or a fence?) to make it that bit more pet friendly again.

We had a really lovely stay and the location was brilliant! It was lovely to be able to walk to the sea and the great local pub and village shop. We had everything we wanted right on the doorstep in a lovely peaceful location. The property interior is on the older side but we have a dog so it was a relief that it wasn't too perfect and that we could relax in it. The price we paid was fair and reflected the accommodation. My only little watch out would be that the garden isn't quite fully enclosed and I had the impression from the listing that it was. Our dog is a puppy and we don't trust him yet not to escape! So we felt we had to keep watch for the first few days. All in all it was absolutely lovely, the property is the last one in a small lane so had a beautiful outlook across open fields. Gorgeous!

The location and the house itself was beautiful. The EV charging was a definite bonus. However the house wasn't the cleanest, upon arrival the worktops were sticky, the books on all the shelves had gathered quite a bit of dust, the sofa in the living room has quite a lot of stains and has a bit of a smell to it and there was a dirty mattress propped up against a door in one of the smaller bedrooms. It's a beautiful property, it's just need a little bit of love, a thorough deep clean and a little bit of modernisation.

We had a very nice stay overall. Great location and lovely garden. Everything you need is present, including washing machine, dishwasher and all towels and linens etc. Kitchen was highly equiped also. Cottage is recommended for fairly large families as there is plenty of space.

A well-equipped, spacious and comfortable holiday cottage with nice garden. Very welcome that it has an EV charger (Type 2 and one other). Salthouse is a lovely village and a great base for coastal walks and bird-watching. The sitting area is a bit gloomy but the lights are good.

This holiday was a first as grandparents with our three granddaughters, luckily the weather was perfect so we were able to visit the nearby beaches, towns and villages. A lovely time was had by all.. Salthouse being a convenient location with pub and shop/cafe. The cottage on first arrival looked slightly unkempt and dusty in hard to reach areas. I suspect Marpit has been a holiday cottage for some years and the decor / fittings showing their age. Having said that it is very well equipped. The bunkbeds are as described but unfortunately spooked our granddaughters. We managed in the end with two sleeping in the lower bunks and the youngest(7) on a mattress on the floor.. Thankfully they all slept rather well..

Very nice cottage in a wonderful location. Quiet private garden. Mattresses, bedding, and towels should be replaced. Unfortunately, the kitchen was insufficiently cleaned, the toaster still full of bread, coffee powder on the tray, insufficiently washed dishes. With a few renovations and loving care, this place becomes a Jewel.

The cottage is beautiful, well equipped and well located in Salthouse. The area is superb and so peaceful; easy walks to the nature reserve and to the local pub and shop. The cottage is spacious and warm. The log burner is a real treat. Some parts of the cottage could do with a more thorough clean. There were cobwebs in the kitchen and cutlery in the drawers that needed a clean before use. We got stuck in traffic on the journey to Norfolk and so arrived later than planned, which meant trying to find the cottage in the dark. Although instructions on the location of the property on the street were provided, the name plate on the cottage is small, faded and hard to spot, and the key box is well hidden in the area used for the bins. The main photo on airbnb also uses the back of the cottage, so we were a bit clueless as to what the front looked like. Luckily the neighbours were very helpful in guiding us home! Once inside, the place is a joy. Best to try and arrive in daylight...!

Hello. Lots of really good things about this cottage: it is extremely well equipped, the garden terrace is a lovely sun-trap and the owners obviously love all kinds of board games so there would be plenty to do if it happened to rain (it didn't!). The location is great with immediate access to wonderful walks along the coast, good bird-watching, a really nice village store as well as good shopping in Cley. We recommend.

The location of Marlpit Cottage is great. It was very quiet and we could walk from the door to the heath and down to the coast. Salthouse itself has a great little pub and a shop serving coffee, as well as a crab cafe and a beautiful church. It's also well placed to drive to other areas of interest like Blakeney and Wells, and down to Sheringham for more sandy beaches. The entrance to the cottage is a little off-putting as it is a bit shabby and unkempt. But inside it is cosy and spacious, with an extremely well-equipped kitchen, and lots of maps, games and books. The hosts are also very generous with dishwasher tablets, loo roll, things like that. My only two reservations are the shower room is very compact which was fine for us as we are not big people but could present a problem for others; and the garden was very unkempt and had only two basic old wooden chairs and a table. We were lucky to have a sunny week in early Spring so perhaps the garden is tidied up for the summer months but it would have been nice to have had a more pleasant and more comfortable place to sit outside in fine weather. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay, both in the cottage and in the local area.

Overall a good stay but a few niggly things which mean I can’t give it a 5*: 1. There were cobwebs in really obvious places (between the pans on display, for example) which made the place feel a bit neglected and unclean 2. The WiFi was basically non existent. Often we had a “no internet connection” message when trying to connect and speeds were less than 1mbps upload and download if it did connect. Wouldn’t worry some people but not being able to check online maps or book tables at pubs was not ideal for us. There is also no signal so can’t use mobile data 3. The HDTV only offered a handful of channels/didn’t have all the standard free view channels such as E4 and film 4. Plus due to the internet being so awful you couldn’t access netflix etc. Again, won’t bother everyone but felt a bit undersold on the amenities as we didn’t get to really use them/they were insufficient 4. The double bed was very hard. I considered sleeping in the floor which would be more comfortable if it wasn’t for the floorboards which were loose under the carpet 5. The garden wasn’t wholly secure for dogs - gaps in the fence/hedge did mean they could get out. Plus the ~3 foot step up to the grass was really dangerous for our small dogs who did launch themselves off it a few times. If we had children I would be worried about them climbing up/down it too Most of the above won’t apply to everyone but I do feel that it is important to flag so those in a similar position to us are aware. Having said all of this, I do think it’s a lovely cottage and for the right people a really great find but just not perfect for us.

We had a lovely stay at Marlpit Cottage whilst attending our friends wedding at the local church. The cottage is in the perfect location, only a short walk to the pub and beach and a short drive to other local attractions. The cottage itself was lovely, cosy and clean with great amenities and garden. The only real downside was the sleeping arrangements. The master bedroom is beautiful and very comfy, however the bunk rooms were not quite what we expected from the pictures or description. The bunk beds (even the bottom bunks) are much higher off the floor than a standard bunk and I would say may not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues or for young children. That aside, we really enjoyed our stay in Salthouse, the cottage and village are very charming.

Great location in a quiet and beautiful village on the Norfolk coastline. Nice big garden with outside seating area and space for 1 car. Spacious cottage and well equipped kitchen, however, the bunk beds were too high off the ground, a few cobwebs here and there but our biggest issue was the lack of running water on one morning.

We loved our week long stay here, the hosts were great and communication and everything was was described and the directions to find it were easy to follow. The area is incredible with a great pub and shop within a 5-10 minute walk or 2 min cycle. There is also a beach within walking distance and many others within a 20 minute drive. Definitely a great place to stay to unwind and relax while enjoying some of the best coast in the UK

Fantastic cottage in the ideal location to explore all the great places in North Norfolk. The cottage is perfectly equipped for a very comfortable stay, with a large garden. The Dun Cow pub is a short walk and serves excellent food with lovely views. There are loads of amazing places to visit nearby and we would love to come back soon.

Great location for a long weekend, just five mins walk to get out out to the dunes and beach and a very well stocked kitchen if you line to cook. Wood burner was blissful. If you’re taking a dog, open wood stairs might be an issue but overall we thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend here.

Great place, kitchen is fully fitted out so easy to cook food, pub and beach are 5 min walk away so easy to get to. Lots of board games to play, we spent lots of time in the living room with the wood burner to keep us warm. Highly recommended!

The cottage in Salthouse was lovely, it was just the two of us so very spacious, but can easily accommodate more. Kitchen was well stocked with everything you’d need to cook from home, local pub very nice too. The weather was very rough whilst we were staying but the house was cosy on cold wet nights.

Perfect location to explore the local area. We loved that the house was within walking distance of a quiet pebble beach, a lovely pub (good idea to book in advance) and local shop/cafe. My sons also enjoyed playing footy on the pitch next to the village church. We found the house perfect for our family, and had everything we needed, although we didn’t quite realise there were 2 sets of bunk beds in two rooms and they are very high off the ground. Not ideal if you are taking an older relative or have young children. My 11 and 9 yr old thought it was great fun. We enjoyed all our meals outside and the garden was lovely to relax under the trees. We can’t wait to come back to this area.

Marlpit Cottage was absolutely lovely. Really stylish and well thought through cottage. The kids absolutely loved their bedrooms with the quirky bunk beds and additional loft space for them to hide in. Garden is also lovely, big and mature. Location excellent for both the beach or the heath (with great views). Norfolk Holiday Properties were also amazing to deal with - super quick, helpful and friendly.

Lovely little cottage. Great area with small pub which serves great food. One thing that maybe could be improved are the sofas downstairs, the cottage itself is soo cosy but the sofas are really uncomfortable. Maybe in the summer when you don’t need to curl up after a long cold walk it would be ok but we did miss a nice place to sit and be comfortable. Also there is one double room which is spacious and comfy and two bedrooms with bunk beds. The bunk beds would be perfect for kids but not that comfortable for adults. However it was worth being a little bit uncomfortable for the location!

This is a fantastic cottage just moments away from the coastal road, the little, and sweet Salthouse ‘village’ and it comes with the added bonus of having the Coastal Hopper bus stop at the end of the lane. All the charming villages on this beautiful coast are within easy reach from Salthouse. The property is very clean, warm, very quiet and so well equipped! The top bunk/play spaces were superbly fun, but be warned that the lower bunks are very high off the ground so take note anyone with young children - they would need a bed guard. Overall, Marlpit Cottage is brilliant: so close to everything on the divine N Norfolk Coast, and 5-10 mins drive from Holt, a charming Georgian town. This is a great base for this lovely part of the world. Do visit the Dun Cow (5 mins walk from the cottage), and the cafe/shop (also 5 mins walk) before walking out into the marshes and then the famous pebbly Salthouse beach. There are so many walking opportunities from here, and Cley and Blakeney are not far from Salthouse at all. Thanks for having us!

We had a lovely stay, the weather was amazing which helped. The cottage is perfectly situated in Salthouse just off the Coast Rd so rural walks one way and wonderful beach walks the other. The accommodation is stylish with some great art and quirky touches. The kitchen is well equipped and everything was clean and well organised. The bunk beds are indeed high and not recommended if elderly, they were fine for us and very comfortable. The garden is a lovely bonus. We thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend. Thank you.
